Sri Devi Karumariamman Alayam is a beautiful temple located amongst a dense neighborhood in Cheras. It's easy to miss the temple as it's goburam and the entire temple is built lower than the road running across it. Despite living near the temple for almost 10 years, I was not aware of it's existence until recently when I searched for Hindu temples near me. There was no much reviews on Google so I decided to randomly visit the temple on a Tuesday with no expectations but this temple has exceeded it all! Now, this is my go-to temple every week.
There are so many pros to the temple with cleanliness being the top of the list. The floors are clean with ample gunny sacks serving as mats. The santhanam and kunkumam containers are also neat and the contents are always freshly added. This may seem like a small thing but I have visited temples where I've found these items moldy, so it really makes a difference.
The temple also provides trays of all sizes for you to place your lamps and archanai porutkal. It's a thoughtful initiative by the temple for the people who did not plan to but ended up buying some things at the shop near the entrance for the Amman. Speaking of archanai, I like the practice of them handing over your blessed items in a basket rather than simply on your hands. It helps to keep the items safely without risk of accidentally dropping until you get hold of a plastic.
Coming to the deities in the temple, it makes me so happy to see the way they do the alangaram for Amman daily. All the deities adorn beautiful vastras and maalai and very well taken care of.
This temple also has a separate space for annathanam with long tables and plastic chairs arranged neatly at the side. Used plates and utensils disposal is also apt. They have set up a mini library here as well.
Final verdict: 10/10. A must visit, peaceful temple with good vibes and great management team.
