The Malacca Submarine Museum, or Muzium Kapal Selam, in Klebang, Malacca, is a unique attraction that offers visitors a rare opportunity to step inside a real submarine. Housed within the decommissioned French-made Quessant (S623), an Agosta 70-class submarine once used for training by the Royal Malaysian Navy, the museum provides an immersive experience into naval history and life underwater.
The submarine’s interior has been preserved for exploration, with access to its cramped control room, torpedo bays, and crew quarters. This rare glimpse into the life of submariners is both educational and thrilling, making it a popular spot for families, school trips, and history enthusiasts.
The museum is well-maintained, with clear pathways and informative displays that guide visitors through the submarine's various sections. Its affordable entrance fees—RM10 for Malaysian adults and RM20 for foreign adults, with discounts for children—make it an accessible destination for all. The museum's location, just a short drive from Malacca's city center, adds to its convenience, allowing it to be easily included in any sightseeing itinerary.
However, given the submarine’s confined spaces, it may not be ideal for visitors who are claustrophobic. Those planning to visit on weekends should also expect larger crowds. Still, for anyone curious about maritime history or simply seeking a unique experience, the Malacca Submarine Museum is a must-visit...

Read moreCame here to purposely let my kids experience and see the actual submarine up close. There is none as far as I know at any other places in Malaysia. Pretty easy to find the place. It's an isolated tourist spot about 2km from town. Nothing much nearby.
The charges are inexpensive - RM5 for kids and RM10 for adults Malaysian. Foreigner different charges. Besides the submarine, there are 2 retired jets as well. You can enter into the submarine to view some parts of the ship. Once you are inside, it's quite a tight space. At least we normal people can experience the feel being on board. The operator should have install more air conditioning unit if not fan to improve the hot and humid conditions inside for more conducive viewing. Anyway you wouldn't stay long inside. Overall I feel that the exterior of the submarine should have been maintained properly as there are many rusting spots. Very soon the exterior wall will be corroded beyong repair.
Whereas for the 2 jets there were being covered under a roof structure. No access to the cockpit. The kids sure will be thrilled if they can sit in the cockpit.
Overall our visit is short as there are not much to hang around for. Maybe the state government and operator should create more display and attractions at this place as there are...
