Aggressive Monkeys!!! When you arrive this place looks like a family weekend activity. A lot of families with kids. On the side where you arrive there is a man made waterfall and you can already spot some monkeys running around. On this side you can buy ferry tickets to go to the other side of the park, over the small lake. The Price of 3 Ringgit is fine but the waiting time to get on the boat is endless. On the dock where two boats but just one where in use even though the queue was really long. After we made it to the other side there was not a lot to see. Also when you arrive on the other side of the park you are not seeing a lot of monkeys as there are not really coming close to the dock but if you go further away from the boat dock you will see how many monkeys there actually are. There are no signs about how to behave around the monkeys, if the people should be aware of something or how to behave in case a monkey is attacking you. Also the staff doesn't look trustworthy to ask about the monkeys, especially in an emergency situation. DON'T bring food with you the monkeys are attacking people to get the food. Be aware of your things especially shiny stuff. They are selling "food" for the monkeys for you to feed them. You should never feed wild animals. I know this things because after I left the park with a traumatic incident I researched this things on my own. I was really disappointed after I left the park. The Management should really do something about educating the people there on monkeys and put up sings for the visitors. Me personally I had a really bad experience because I was attacked by multiple monkeys while being on a tower which was open, without any gates and no signs to not go up. For your own sake stay with a group of people close to the boat dock. This may seem overreacting but really to be cornered by multiple monkeys showing you their teeth and going in to your way so you cannot leave is not funny at all. I am not saying it's the monkey false, they are just wild animals and we should keep our distance and respect them. I should informed myself more before going but my european mind thought if there are so many families with kids it can not be that dangerous but I was...
Read moreA place to relax from the city life. Fresh air with limestone natural landscape. Gunong Lang with its natural limestone hills silhouted with stalactite and stalagmite. Amidst it is an ex tin mine which history dates back to the 1930's... extraction of tin by digging and hydraulic. The cavity which have become a natural lake feed by natural streams from surrounding areas and rainwater too. The water is crystal clear and it has abundance of fresh water fishes . The most common species being Talapia and Patin.
Plus point is entrance and parking is free. It is also not far away from Ipoh City. Perhaps about 15 mins by car. A ride on the pollution free boat around the lake/ pond will cost you MYR 3 . For senior citizen only MYR 1.50. The boat is big enough to cater for 20 over passengers. This facilities is managed by MBI ( local city council of Ipoh) The water in the lake is crystal blue and clear amidst the perimeter of majestic green limestone hills. The scenery give you an atmosphere of calmness or equanimity. :)
The major attraction is the water cascading down the limestone cliff. This is where you can take a million dollar picture for your album with the background of cascading waterfall. It is so beautiful. The water fall is ingeniously man-made but unfortunately at the time of my visit with a Sarawak guest , there were no water cascading the limestone cliff. It seems something wrong with the water pump or waterfall and it has not been functionable for 2 weeks already. The watersource for the waterfall is been extracted from the lake and pump up to the top of the natural cliff .
There is a small cafe at the jetty next to the counter selling snacks and hot and cold drinks. Teh tarik is nice. However do not expect too high of their Roti Arab and roti canai, they are ready made( probably from Tesco) put in the fridge and heat up for you by microwave oven.
The ice cream here is good. Durian ice cream a plus point.
There are some monkeys hanging around the parking area. Beware there are one of the species known...
Read moreNice Scenery, But Limited Activities – A One-Time Visit for Now Visited Gunung Lang Recreational Park on a Monday morning during the Ramadan month. It was pleasantly quiet with no crowds. The boat ticket fee is affordable at RM 3 for adults, and RM 1.50 for kids (aged 3 - 12 years) and senior citizens (above 55 years).
We took a boat ride across the lake to reach the recreational park. There, we were offered tram rides at RM 7 per person. The tram ride took around 10 to 15 minutes, while walking the entire area would probably take about 30 to 40 minutes. We were informed about possible monkey sightings, so visitors are advised to keep an eye on their belongings and kids. However, we didn’t encounter any monkeys during our morning visit.
The park itself has a playground for kids and some scenic spots perfect for taking photos. There are restrooms available before taking the boat ride and there's one available at the park towards the playground too.
The natural surroundings are beautiful, but the hot weather can be challenging, so it's best to bring sunscreen, shades, and caps.
Our tour guide mentioned that the place is currently under maintenance, with improvements expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of this year. It sounds promising as they're planning to add more things to see and do. I also heard that events like weddings and outdoor functions might be possible here in the future, which could be interesting given the serene setting.
Overall, the experience was okay. For now, it feels like a one-time visit due to the limited activities available, but hopefully, it’ll be worth revisiting once the upgrades...
