A picturesque tropical island. The most popular beach of Redang island is the Long Beach. It's located on the east side of the island. There'are many resorts located right on this beach. It's a long stretch of white sandy beach with deep blue water. Though it tends to be a bit crowded at times during the super peak season.
My favorite beach is Turtle's Beach. It's located on the north of the island is not overcrowded like long beach, even at it's peek I haven't seen more than a several dozens of people, vast majority of whom were locals, on the about 400m long stretch of the beach. As you would guess based on it's name, you can see turtles over here. Small boats in 2-5 batches are coming from all over the resorts located around the island to lure turtles by small fishes and squids from the bottom of the sea all day long. It's a good opportunity to swim only about 50-100m off the shore to join those people swimming with turtles. Depending on your swimming skills, or lack of that, you may consider renting a snorkeling mask, life jacket or even fins right on the beach for about RM25-30 per day per whole set. There are small bamboo stalls selling fresh coconut and canned beverages, in the evening you may also purchase fresh grilled corn for only RM3 a piece.
If you would be up to something other then spending time on the beautiful beaches, there are some guided and unguided activities also available. You may go for a scuba diving session or even enroll for a course to obtain your diving license in a few days, there's massage, and ATW and snorkling tours offered too.
Should you be up for some hiking or rather walking through the jungle, there's a footpath available between Long Beach and Turtle's beach. It's about 2.5km long and can be comfortable taken in about 30 minutes without rushing. Should you just want rest on the island and do nothing, you will appreciate the peaceful nature of this place, though, in this case you had better stay near the kampung (aka village) in the middle of the island like Redang De'...
Read moreRedang Island is made for beach lovers, with its white sand beaches and crystal clear ocean water, making it popular with snorkelers great snorkeling is the islandâs main attraction. Scuba divers love it here, too. Though itâs one of the largest islands off the eastern Malay Peninsula, itâs small enough that visitors can get around on foot, either on roads or trekking through the jungle. Redang Island is one of nine islands in a marine nature reserve. Accommodations are mostly resort style.
The island boasts some of the best beaches in South East Asia. Water is crystal clear and warm, the sand is white and mostly clean and the island itself offers great places to snorkel or dive. The beaches itself make the island worth visiting. However, there are two major drawbacks. First, its quite a hassle to get to and around on the island. Either you take a 1.5h public ferry or get a speedboat pickup from your resort (costly, not sure about the time saving). đđ
On the island itself there is no public transportation. As the island is very small, it lacks proper infrastructure in general so you are pretty much stuck with the resort you are staying at (except for a few restaurants as a cheaper alternative to the expensive on-site options). Second drawback is the lackluster quality of the resorts given the prices that are being charged. If you are there primarily for beach and water activities and do not care too much about your accommodation, then this island is highly recommended.đđđ
We visited for our honeymoon and it was marvelous. We swan with turtles, saw coral and walked across beautiful powder white beaches. Before booking an activity with your resort, try checking with any of the local restaurants. Pretty much all of them offer the same activity for a...
