Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA) is a vast and affordable national park that offers an authentic rainforest experience right near the city. It serves as a fantastic destination for family outings, fitness, and nature education, providing fresh air and a tranquil setting that feels miles away from the urban hustle. While some older attractions such as Jambatan Gantung TBNSA (Suspension Bridge TBNSA) and Menara Tinjau (Observation Tower) may suffer from maintenance issues, the overall experience is rewarding due to the sheer size and beauty of the natural environment. Key Attractions : * Taman Malaysia: A beautiful and culturally rich architectural gem near the entrance, featuring striking Malay, Indian, and Chinese pavilions. * Paddy Fields (Taman Padi): Provides lush, green views and a glimpse into traditional Malaysian agrarian life. * Kolam C : a serene, easily accessible lake that offers a stunning, picture-perfect reflection of the lush greenery near the main entrance. * Taman Haiwan @TBNSA: A family-friendly area to see animals like pony, goats, ostrich, alpaca, and horses, etc * Air Kuning Dam (EAK): A secluded, scenic dam famous as a top destination for pacu fishing. * Specialty Gardens: Educational areas like the Cactus Garden, Spice & Beverages Garden, and Herbs & Medicinal Garden. * RISEM Island: A highly serene spot for quiet photography, offers tranquil pond and forest views, accessible via a picturesque but cautious wooden footbridge. Tips for Your Visit: 1. Bring cash if you are driving: RM5 per car, cash only, pay at entrance. 2. Entrance Fee: RM3 per person, accept QR payment. 3. Getting Around: Eventhough the park is huge, walking is still feasible (we walked all the way). Only issue probably is the road not pedestrian friendly, the cyclists might be coming at high speed. The shuttle bus is always full. 4. Facilities: Basic amenities like a surau, picnic tables, and toilets are available, particularly near the main areas.

A great place for a family outing/camping/team bonding with friends as there are various activities & sites to visit. Free parking available. RM3 entrance fee. Keep the map of the park with you. The bikes were very affordable as stated by many, you can rent a normal bicycle (RM15 + RM1 for every hour) /electronic bicycle (RM30 + RM5 for every hour, suitable when riding with kids), beam scooters were also available. Make sure to test the breaks, test the ride, check the gears & check for flat tires before riding off for the day. They accept cash & online banking. **recommend to get electronic bikes/Beam scooter if you don't want to cycle up steep hills. There were some parts that are not advisable to ride, due to the steep hill, nonetheless bring the bikes along with you as its only certain areas that are restricted. With the presence of monkeys, stay calm & walk in groups (team up with another group of people if necessary) as the monkeys can be aggressive. Most areas aren't shaded, therefore it's advisable to bring umbrella/wear caps. We also noticed some nature photographers present. Free bus shuttle is available at certain stops if you prefer to rest after the long walk. Public toilets are also available at certain areas. Drinks/food are only available at the entrance. Overall it was a nice scenic walk, not that crowded too (came during Ramadan month, on a public holiday). Roads were wide, hence we could maintain social distancing. Since its a huge park, we walked more than 10k steps. 1 day isn't enough to visit the whole compound. Bring along light snacks to fuel up (but careful of monkeys). **we did not participate in any activities neither visit any of the sites (except for the fishing lake & the water dam), hence unable to comment about the maintenance/fees. Hope you've found this helpful 😊

Taman Botanical Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA), or the National Botanic Gardens Shah Alam, is a green lung in the state capital of Selangor. As of December 2024, the car park entry is RM5 and entry for adults is RM3 per person. The park is big and has a variety of features, from ponds to lush vegetation and even paddy fields. There is also a swimming pool and an adventure park. An animal farm with cattle, deers, camels, sheep, and a variety of other animals are also found within it. The park is decently maintained. There are some place where moss growth has made the ground slippery, so do be careful. There are some abandoned blocks further in as well. There are bicycles for rent as well. So head to the bicycle rental if you wish to cycle around the park (which is quite big). Birders do visit the park on weekends, especially Sunday. So expect to see people walking or sitting around with powerful telephoto lenses. Birds that can be found there includes hill mynas, shamas, malkohas, drongo, woodpeckers, munias, and others. There are ‘at-risk’ animals as well in the park which can be sighted occasionally. The park is also popular for events. It is frequently used by schools, or organizations, to hold recreational or sports (running or cycling) events. Great place for recreational, exercise and birding.

The National Botanical Gardens in Shah Alam, Malaysia, offers a peaceful and immersive experience in nature, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts and families alike. Located in a vast, green space, the garden spans over 800 hectares and showcases a diverse array of plant species, including tropical trees, flowering plants, and various other botanical collections.

One of the highlights is the beautifully designed themed gardens, such as the medicinal garden, orchid garden, and palm garden, which offer visitors a deeper insight into the plant kingdom. The walking paths are well-maintained, making it easy to explore at your own pace, and there are also several scenic spots perfect for photography or a quiet picnic.

For those interested in learning more, the garden has an informative visitor center that provides educational exhibits about the flora and fauna in the area. The surrounding environment is serene and well-kept, with plenty of benches and shaded areas for relaxation.

Additionally, the gardens are family-friendly, with play areas for children and regular events that promote environmental awareness. The park also offers bike rentals for those who prefer a quicker way to explore its extensive grounds.

While it’s a fantastic place to relax and enjoy nature, it can get quite warm, so it’s recommended to visit early in the morning or later in the evening for a more comfortable experience. Overall, the National Botanical Gardens in Shah Alam provides a perfect escape from the bustle of the city and offers a peaceful retreat into Malaysia’s rich...
