I'm going to leave some practical details that are missing from the other reviews, that I wish I had known before hand:
We nearly missed the entrance which lies between some derelict buildings and is marked with just a faded plaque where the name of the park is written with the thinnest font in existence. Thank God for the lovely lady at the Farmoury shop who saw us rambling wide eyed and confused.
There is no signage within the park whatsoever. There's an online map, but paths are not always well defined and landmarks are unknown to us, so you never know where you are or if you are even within the park perimeter anymore.
There are no garbage bins. Not in the park, not at the entrance, not at the visitor center. I found some old broken soda bottles and a shotgun shell and wanted to throw them away, I walked all the way to the visitor center and there was no way to dispose of them. I found a construction container a little further away. If the park can have abandoned buildings and hunter huts marring the natural environment, it can also accommodate a garbage bin or two.
The toilets at the visitor center were closed on a Friday at noon. There are no other toilets in the vicinity.
It was nice to spend some time in nature, the walk was doable and safe for little kids, so it was a very positive experience overall and I...
Read moreWalked from the Popeye village bus stop. Along the seashore/cliffs, to join the Il-Majjistral pathway. You must respect the private property on your way, but easily recognised. Then followed the offical Park pathway to Golden Bay beach. Fantastic views, also Gozo can be seen. Typical Malta, one would say. About 7km, not difficult trek, within 2,5hrs. Nearly alone all the way. May be a bit windy. Highly recommend, well in contrast to Valletta/Mdina tourists destinations.
If you would start/finish from the Popey village bus stop, make sure you get there/from by bus or taking cab. The road there is so narrow for...
