Maui Nui Golf Club: Where Even Bad Golfers Can Enjoy the View!
So, we decided to take our mediocre golf skills to the stunning Maui Nui Golf Club, and let's just say, it was an experience! If you're not great at golf (like us), this course will remind you just how challenging and humbling the sport can be. But hey, at least the scenery is so beautiful it almost distracts you from your double bogeys!
From the get-go, the course welcomed us with wide, open fairways that seem easy until you realize they're flanked by treacherous bunkers and sneaky water hazards. It's like they knew we were coming and decided to up the difficulty level just for kicks. We spent more time in the sand than on the greens – might as well have brought a beach towel and sunscreen!
The greens are manicured to perfection, which means the ball rolls exactly where you don’t want it to. Putting here feels like trying to land a hole-in-one on a miniature golf windmill course – challenging, to say the least. But let’s be honest, the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the West Maui Mountains make every missed putt a little easier to swallow.
The wildlife on the course is something to behold. We saw birds that seemed to mock our every swing. It's like we were playing golf in a nature documentary. I’m pretty sure I saw a fish in the water hazard laughing at me after my fifth ball took a dive.
The staff at Maui Nui is top-notch. They were kind enough not to laugh at our golf skills – at least not in front of us. They offered encouragement and maybe a touch of pity, but their friendliness made us feel like we were pros (even if our scorecard told a different story).
In conclusion, Maui Nui Golf Club is a fantastic course for anyone who loves stunning views and doesn’t mind a little bit of a challenge – okay, a lot of challenge. If you're a bad golfer like us, just remember to bring plenty of balls, a sense of humor, and maybe a map to find your way out of the...
Read moreOver the last several years, I have played this course probably 20 times. Starting a couple of years ago, the conditions have gradually deteriorated to the point where it looks like some routine course maintenance has been abandoned. Tee boxes, in general, have not been maintained. I played 3 rounds here in the last 2 weeks (bought a multi round card thinking the course would be in better shape) and the pin placements on many greens had not been moved and it appeared that the greens had not been rolled for quite some time, large bare areas, very slow, etc. . Greenside bunkers are largely unplayable due to standing water and/or rock hard sand (no sign of them being raked). Granted there have been heavy rains recently but the bunkers need to be addressed. By and large, fairways are in decent shape. Tee times are booked at 8 min intervals and with no course marshal (none seen on any of my rounds), play can be very slow. One round took us over 5 hours even with an early morning tee time. I had hoped things had changed since last year, and Covid not being as much of an issue, but I have to say, things have not. Yes, they are rejuvenating some of the greens. 18th last year. 17th this year. But it would be best if they shut down 9 holes at a time and got it over with.
The course staff are very friendly and helpful. The price is less than the competition but honestly, I wish I had not bought the card. I would have sooner played a couple of rounds less, on a course in better condition, for the same money. Unless there are indications that things have/are changing, I doubt I...
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at Maui Nui for years. I hit balls at the range almost every week. I hit a medium basket last week and later I noticed bank of Hawaii alerted me to a double charge and that two mediums were purchased back to back. I only hit one basket when I go to hit balls and I know about how many balls and how long that takes. I hit one medium and I was charged for two. I didn’t want a refund just a credit for my next basket. I went to the pro shop the next time I went to hit balls which is already a bit of a hassle because the ball machine is near the range so I don’t often go in the pro shop. I showed the double charge on my phone to Michelle at the counter. Michelle told me that I actually received 150 balls at the time of the purchase. Since Michelle was not present when I got the balls I have no idea how she could say that. I’ve been golfing for a long time but it doesn’t take that to know the difference between 75 and 150 range balls. I told her I only received 75. She told me no that I’m wrong and that two baskets worth came out but in the same sentence she said she would give me a code for the balls so I said ok thank you and dropped it. I get out to the range and she only gave me a code for a small bucket. So not only did she not actually make it right but she also insulted a regular customer in the process by telling me I’m too stupid to know the difference between 75...
