Highly recommended place to visit if you love snorkeling or would love to watch fishes in a glass-bottom boat. Sea water is quite crystal clear. Friendly boat crew, safe to swim. I carried my own snorkeling gear though the boat provides life-jacket and snorkeling glass and pipe upon request. There's a boat trip from Blue bay beach to coconut island. It has a resort property occupying most of the island, except the beach party. So tourists can stay, walk, play, swim by the beach. You might try to go around the resort property, by the beach-side, but there's not enough walking passage at some point, because it's water all over and bit rocky area. Plus it's not recommended to go the backside of the resort property, there would be water current and waves. You can also go for a day booking for the resort (that includes lunch) and then might explore the full island. Very relaxing. Once the boat dropped us, it went back and came back after 30 mins to take us back to blue bay beach (starting point). However in the midway, the boat halted for another 30 mins for snorkeling and swimming. You will see a variety of fishes. There will be other boats too with many other passengers, as that is the snorkeling point. Lots of corals and colourful fishes. Relax-float-watch. Once the boat trip is done, you may sit by the beach in the blue bay and have picnic with your family and friends. There are few places to mount beach umbrellas, as it would be hot and sunny in the summer. Free car parking and toilet/shower/changing rooms but may not be very clean. Hopefully you can manage. Have seen local bus connectivity too, but need to explore. Overall you can spend a good holiday...
Read moreThere is plenty of free parking along the beach and free public toilets with fresh water showers. There are stalls selling snacks and refreshments all along the front. Even visiting in August (technically winter/out of season), the bay was very busy. As other reviews have said most of the reefs/coral are dead/dying due to the amount of activity there. You can get glass bottomed boats out to the better reefs but be prepared to have quite a few boats all anchored in the same spot and damaging the coral with their anchors. As suggested by some of the other reviews suggested I simply walked along to behind the Blue Beryl Guest House and snorkeled from the beach. This was the only area from the beach that I actually found living coral and quite a few fish, I worked my way all back along to where the main tourist area is. As others have said, be aware of the current, it's fine with a pair or fins or if you're a confident swimmer though. Also be aware of boats coming in/out if you stray too far...
