We spent 11 nights in Mauritius last month, having decided to spend our last night at Le Peninsula as it was close to the airport and offer bed and breakfast options.
Admittedly what they show on their website and what you get are I face two very different experiences.
My list from most shocking to leadt: The food - I am not sure who the chef is or what the deal is but the food is probably the worst part by far. Desserts that are inedible almost, to a chef that doesn't even know how to make a fried egg properly to the fruit"selection". Breakfast was bad, but was beaten by the lunch, which we opted to have on arrival. 2500 rupees is without a doubt the biggest rip off as the section and quanliry is so poor that you end up eating only the fried rice dish which can be bought at any nearby vendor for about 170 rupees... Talk about daylight robbery. Dinner, no better. They feed you carbs upon carbs and cater for the masses. I cauld go on about the food but rather don't eat here as you will be disappointed. Have the ice cream though, it's amazing - funnily enough they don't make it so perhaps that is why.
The room : No logical thought on layout, the TV on the wall does not face the bed so you can't watch it while in bed.
The shower has a gap between the glass doors and walls that let's water splash everywhere and find its way to a corner where no one can reach and clean.
The walls and vanity and dirty and damaged,
We found a good couple hairs in our bed, so I am not sure if the bedding is cleaned properly.
The aircons are fitted above the beds and hence make a noise, under stable and I would rather have it than not, however ours leaked in our head throughout the night in about 15-30min intervals.
The seating and furniture in the room is pretty filthy with stains and marks all over it, not too inviting to sit in.
The worst idea is the toilet, in a separate cubicle with a glass door, no stress it looks nice and modern. However it has no ventilation and no extractor fan so as you can imagine you need to prepare one another when you need to go no2, as the whole unit.... Well let's just say the aroma fills the space...
Again the list can go on but I think you get the idea,
Towels for the beach need to be rented with a deposit, fair but it's just a pain to be honest.
The snorkeling in front of the resort is awesome as it's right next to the reserve, so that was a win.
It's sad that our last night was spent at such a subpar, yet fairly pricey resort that serves abysmal food and accommodates you in rooms that leave a lot to be desired.
Only book here as a last resort and make sure you eat out so that you don't have to endure some of the worst food we have not enjoyed globally.
My rating our of 100, would be about 25 maximum just for convenience and the snorkeling...

Read moreWe spent 2N3D at this hotel, very close to the Airport. For the price we paid, it was surprisingly good.
Rooms: We chose comfort room as we were 3. The room had plenty of space, kettle, TV, hot water, AC and 1 king bed and 2 single. However the lights were kind of very dim, one more bulb would have been perfect. Room service is everyday. Safe was not working though. Only one bottle of water per day per room. Shower leaking water to the room.
Food: We were all inclusive. The local drinks from the bar was nice. Quick service from the barmen and they were nice people also. Food was actually very good. Though not many varieties available, it was kind of perfect. Salads, fresh fruits and condiments were plenty. We also requested vegetarian food, which the chef made them personally.
Activities: Free Activities like glass bottom, kayak, snorkeling, beach volley, pétanque. Snorkeling is a must at blue bay Marine park. Sauna is also free (think only one time) . Spa available but we did not do it as it seemed to be a little costly for us.
Location:
You could see planes who took off almost all day. Great location for plane spotters. The marine park is a bliss, lots and lots of marine life and safe lagoon. Careful of the drop off though, don't venture too much.
Staff:
Waiters and kitchen staffs are well trained. We did not expect 5 star hotel service, but they seem to be doing their best. Réception is not as welcoming but we did not find this an issue.
Others: Car park is quite small. Can accommodate like 15 cars approx. Pool is quite big and had kids pool also. Towels were cleaned and can be changed everyday. Toilets were cleaned and well maintained. Coffee machine is 24hrs...
