I love visiting Bosque Colomos (only down side is no doggies allowed, I take my fur babies to Parque Metropolitano). There are two main entrances, one is located off Calle el Chaco and the other is on Avenida Patria. There is ample parking at both entrances and they charge a flat rate of $20 pesos to park (take coins) no matter how long you enjoy the park. The park is absolutely free to walk into. If you enter via EL Chaco you will encounter paved trails, good lighting for early morning running (opens at 6am), the Japanese garden, open air exercise equipment, and a few seating areas and benches. I find that El Chaco side of Colomos is a good area for training if you enjoy hills, there are lots! If you enter via Avenida Patria you'll encounter horses for rent, basketball courts, exercise equipment, a cactus garden, gravel, wood chip, and dirt running trails, restrooms, and a few stands selling snacks and beverages. Regardless of the entrance you use the park is completely connected. Since I'm a petite female who runs alone I like to get to El Chaco early, 6am or so because that side of the park is well lit and the rangers make me feel safe. Once the sun comes up I wind my way over to the dirt running trails along the Patria side of the park. You'll encounter horse mounted rangers keeping an eye on things. You can literally run an endless number of kilometers without ever leaving the park, but keep in mind that longer distances require doing lots of loops. I enjoy completing my 5-15k...
Read moreI spent one evening here at Bosque Los Colomos and was gratified immensely as I found it to be such a serene and lovely place.
For one, it is quite big, and offers many things to come and see, from a small pond for local birds to a trail for horseback riding. My particular favorite, though it was flooded with people, was the Japanese Garden located at the north end of the park by the pagodas. It is not the biggest but it is still very pretty with all its unique vegetation.
There are also a number of paths you can take when there that lead to different ends of the park. People usually run on these tracks but it is also common that people walk on them. I found this a great place to come and get steps in and get away from the vibe of the city.
I would say it is definitely worth coming to check out because there are not many regional parks similar to it in the surrounding area. If you have the chance to come and see...
Read moreBeautiful and very large area of nature in the midst of a city. The quiet, fresh air, and gentle sounds of nature here are so relaxing. The Japanese garden is the best part of the whole place. Absolutely stunning and so picturesque. Not to mention it has so many friendly squirrels running through it, as well as fish, turtles, and some birds to watch and enjoy. The cactus garden isn't well developed at all. It is just a few cacti growing pretty much wildly. Plenty of trails throughout the park to walk through. There are a few picnic table areas too but overall the park is lacking benches throughout to sit on along the trails. There is only a concentration of benches in a few of the more popular areas. Either way, the beautiful and grand trees and green landscape and ability to enjoy nature right in the city make this place so valuable and appreciated. Will...
