Fuente de las 8 Regiones — Attraction in Oaxaca

It's a fountain that represents the 8 regions of Oaxaca. It used to be called siete regiones, or seven regions even though there were always 8 regions, it the fountain only has 7 woman statues dancing around a guy. The woman are all sculpted in traditional clothes and the guy is in the danza de la pluma outfit, a traditional dance in the valley region. It's a good meeting place and also photo op place. If you have rei no sit zip pants you could fill those really big pockets with some food to have a picnic here. And if it is hot and you want to climb up and dance in the fountain, you could unzip the pants part of the REI no sit zip pants and make them shorts, without sitting! But their pockets are really the best thing about them. They are so big you really could bring enough food for your family and friends and enough to share with whoever...

Is sad that oaxaca government does not pay attention on maintenance of this public places, trash over the hole place... Paintings and is very deteriorated. Gras is not preserved, dirty water, etc. This places should be a reference for the city and a place for chill and a nice spot to have some rest or just spend some minutes but is very unpleasant being there... Some times is not so dirty and u can appreciate some...

The statues are beautiful. It's a bit sad that there's no information about the statues. There are some old plaques telling which woman is from which tribe/culture, but the plaques are so weather worn and rusty you can't read them. Also, I visited during a hot/dry season, so there was understandablely no water running. ...
