My daughter and I were tourists from the US when visiting the water park. After reading several reviews ahead of time, I was on the fence about going to the park but I'm glad we did. I want to address a few things I read in the reviews that caught my attention:
Equipment: Yes, the equipment was a bit rough around the edges but so what? Considering how much abuse these boards take on a daily basis, it's no wonder they aren't in great shape. My board had wood showing through the leading edge from all of the rail slides it had seen. No big deal.
Facility: Yes, there isn't as much green grass as the photos they show on their website. You aren't there for the scenery. It's a big concrete bowl and it looks and felt like someone had taken a rock quarry and turned it into a water park. The ground was rough and hot and if you don't have tough soles on your feet, it's going to hurt a bit. The stairs that you use to get out of the water were covered in mossy slime so you had to be careful when getting out since the railing on most of the stairs were broken and/or missing.
Receptionist: One of the reviewers actually noted that the receptionist didn't speak English. You are in Mexico, the fact that You don't speak Spanish is the problem.
When we arrived, it was very quiet but once we got closer we could see some life in the rear park. The Spanish-speaking receptionist was there and did her best to guide us. Unlike the other reviewers, we were only given the option of 4hrs or more. We paid $1500mx/ea ($94USD) for 4hrs. These prices matched their website but the website checkout didn't work so we paid in person.
The main building sits above and in between the two parks. It contains clean locker rooms, the rental area, "pro shop" which also has a pool table, covered outdoor area with tables/chairs, and a place to order food. The receptionist turned out to be the same person who gave us our equipment. The vests and helmets were in great shape, however, my board and boots weren't. My daughter had a pretty nice board, although the boots didn't match. I imagine the boards for adults and grown boys get the most abuse.
The steps down to the park are located near the front of the main reception area. Once down there, you'll see covered seating areas just beyond a trampoline and the main cable house. We were fortunate to get there early enough to grab one of the seating areas close to the main house - it was a 90F+ (33C+) day so staying out of the sun was key.
At the cable house, we found two very friendly and very helpful guys working the cable system. There was no line and as soon as we were strapped in, we were able to hop our way to the launch area. The two guys that were there didn't speak a lot of English but it was more than enough to help us get on the water. Both my daughter and I knew how to wakeboard but we had never boarded at a cable park so we needed a few pointers to get started. One of the guys would work the system and the other guy would give us the necessary instructions and push to get off the launch carpet.
The cable system worked great the entire time. During our stay maybe 20 to 30 people had come but the wait was never more than 3 to 4 people deep at any time, and most of the time, it was little kids riding kneeboards so the line moved fast. The water was warm but surprisingly full of life. I'm not sure how the fish survive but the water must be in decent shape to sustain life. All of the floating features at the park appeared to be in great shape. None of them looked abused or broken so we had a lot of confidence hitting the features.
Overall, we had a great time. The worst part is the sourness we are still feeling 2 days later!
The park is great. Go and have fun! Don't sweat all of the details like language, green grass, equipment, and other things that won't affect how much fun it is. The key takeaways: the water is clean, the guys are super friendly and helpful and the ride time was pretty unlimited during our 4hr stay. We only wish we had a water park like this near our home...
Read moreThe best Cable park in Mexico! Good variety of obstacles, but I recommend to wax your board since it’s always warm and they dry up really quickly. The tension is a little weird but when you get used to it it’s great. The Operators are always in a nice mood, the music is always good and they handle everything great. The cable is open daily from 9am-5pm. During high season (the winter months) there is especially in the early morning and late afternoon only few people at the cable. Off-season you will meet less beginners almost the whole day. The kitchen offers a variety of Mexican and non-Mexican dishes which I can generally recommend. The hotel located at the lakes is great. The Bathrooms are clean and well designed. The beds are comfortable and the rooms even come with a TV and fridge. Free Wi-Fi is also included. The Hotel has a rooftop and a small gym which really rounds up the package. From Cancún centre it takes about 50 minutes and from Playa del Carmen about 20 minutes and if you’re staying in Puerto Morelos it just takes about 15 Minutes. The entrance to the Park is conveniently located directly at the highway. They offer Wakeboard Bootcamps and beginner classes which are perfect to learn how to wakeboard. No matter if you never wakeboarded or come here to spend a week at one of the best cable parks in all North America you are definitely at the right spot. My...
Read moreThe food at the park is top notch and the prices really aren't bad. The Tex-mex burger is one of the best I have had in a while and the BBQ wings were quite serviceable as well. The potato wedges were awesome as well. The food is better than you would expect at a cable park.
The cables themselves were great, the features on the advanced cable were too big for wakeskate but the clockwise intermediate cable was perfect. It is an interesting layout with the cables exscavated into the ground so they are at the water table which gives them an industrial quarry feel since it looks like it is all stone or corral. The whole park is very nice, the bathrooms and public spaces are very upscale. Some of the construction methods wouldn't pass code in the US like the stairs and lack of markings and safety rails so it seems like a throw back to many moons ago.
If your there for the features it's not bad and you will surely find something to hit but there is not much else in the area so it really helps if you have a car or rides will get...
