We took a 3 hours private tour with Jorge to explore the estuary and see wildlife.
We've done a lot of tours during our travel times, but this simple man is next level guide. He is a local, speaks English very well and is continuing legacy from his father. He knows area very well and can provide a lot of information about flora and fauna there. On the way back we saw a lot of boat tours, with my partner we were joking they are quiet tours, because there was little talking or just pointing on animals. Jorge on the other hand was explaining about mangroves, flamingos, crocodiles, Mexican bay, Mayans. Yucatan peninsula, etc. He is an expert and knows a lot about Rio Lagartos natural reserve and is also doing enviromental work for Natural Parque.
After our morning trip to see wildlife we went to near island with local restaurant to swim in Mexican gulf, eat fresh sea food, drink beer and simply enjoy the moment.
Book this tour, you definitely won't regret it, you will support a local guy and contribute to...
Read moreI would give 5 starts for the trip itself. We took Nature Lover tour, the guide was great, had a good knowledge of abinals and nature in the area. We saw a lot of animals: birds and crocodiles. However our experience is bitter sweet.
They tried to cheat us on money in the end. I paid upfront 15% of 150 USD which was the total price but after the tour I was told to pay 150 USD because allegedly the tour was 175 USD. I had to show them on their own Web page that the price was 150USD. 150 USD for that trip is already a lot of money and they shouldn't take the advantage of the tourists to get more money. I hate when someone plays nice person and in the end just wants more...
Read moreRio Lagratos is a small village, blink and you will miss it. A bit off the beaten path but worth the drive. Strongly suggest taking a boat tour. Local guide/captain will take you on a adventure through open water and rivers where you will get a chance to see some very unique birds and even crocodiles. Same birds actually to up to the boat to show off their feathers ...in exchange for some fish (ask the captain before you leave port). Pelicans are also very popular. One may also see the salt lands (i called them that 😁). A place where the water turns almost pink.
Do take the drive...definitely worth it. Do take cash...no ATM...
