Very nice place in Veracruz downtown. It's worth to visit both during the day and at night, specially on Saturday night it gets very crowded, there's live music playing different genres, from Cumbia, Salsa, Norteño, Mariachi, or traditional music from Veracruz, etc... it's both for families or friends who are looking for partying. There are plenty of options to have a drink or eat something. If you are looking for a good coffee spot, right in front of the Cathedral, you'll find "Gran Cafe del Portal" which is also an historic place and according to a taxi driver, the coffee is way better than "El Portal" and "Gran Café de la Parroquia". If you want something cheaper, at night there are spots selling "tacos de guisado", tamales and so on.

Los Portales as it is named is the place to go for some music, fun, and dancing. This is every night of the week. It looks like a mini Central Park with live music playing on every corner. There is also live shows by children to adult folklore performances. There are authentic souvenirs for sale in little kiosks all very very reasonably priced. The dancing is the best part of it all. The street was jumping with the live music of salsa. Several bands took the stage for hours and entertained. The energy ripped through even the calmest and oldest person in the audience. Los Portales is a MUST when visiting Boca del Rio.

What an awesome plaza to go to on the weekends. There is live music until well after midnight, dozens of couples or pairs of friends soulfully dancing and singing. You've got around 10 bars/restaurants to choose from around the Zocalo. There's many benches to sit down on between the Zocalo's trees with some street food stalls waiting for your order. Great for people watching, enjoying traditional music or having a dance yourself! One, if not THE busiest Zocalo or main square I have seen in all of México so far!

This is a great place to take the family for a nice afternoon. Adults can hang at one of the restaurant’s patios around the plaza and the kids can play in the plaza. There is so much history here. The “queso de hebra” that people sell while you are in the patio is awesome. You can get a free sample from them and is a tasty inexpensive snack to have with a drink. After you are done you can shop at the stands around the plaza where you can fine anything from cigars to hand made souvenirs. Enjoy!

A place of great tradition with restaurants and bars around the central square. Very friendly people and in general a great atmosphere. Many old traditions still carry on such as dances depicted on these pictures. Veracruz' zocalo recently underwent a renovation that made it more apealling to visitors and locals. I recommend to take the time to walk around the zocalo or enjoy a drink or meal in one the places nearby.
