Mariscos Villa Rica Diligencias — Restaurant in Veracruz

While visiting Veracruz for the first time, I took my dad to have lunch at Villa Rica. He ordered a campechana with shrimp and octopus and I ordered camarones enchilpayados (something I had never tried before). Unfortunately, they only brought my dad a shrimp cocktail no octopus, no explanation or anything just the wrong order and while I was eating my food, to my surprise I found a ROACH in the sauce!! I was disgusted and very disappointed because I was enjoying the food I was eating. It was a horrible feeling that still makes me feel sick to my stomach. I just want to add that the manager went to our table and apologized right away and did the professional thing by not charging us. We left right after that. It is a beautiful setting for a restaurant with outdoor seating. It is expensive. A shrimp cocktail was over $10 US and the shrimp were not even deveined. My son ordered octopus, soft shell crab and Chipotle shrimp (mixed tacos). They were disgusting. Luckily, they were removed from the bill. Most of the servers are good, but the young ones in the morning are not and really want to push the buffet breakfast, also expensive. They want to charge you for each refill of coffee. El lugar es bonito. Está al pie del Gran Hotel Diligencias. Aunque sirven mariscos principalmente, tienen otras opciones. El servicio es muy bueno, la calidad de los alimentos es buena en general. Los precios son altos. Su ubicación es céntrica, está frente al zócalo. El aire acondicionado suele estar elevado, lo que es un alivio en el puerto, sobretodo en los días y horas más acalorados. El personal es muy amable y servicial. Pero lo mejor de todo es el bufete de las mañanas. Comienza a las 7 am y termina a medio día. La recomendación es llegar máximo a las 11 am. Porque a las 12 en punto comienzan a levantarlo, aunque puedes tomarte todo el tiempo que requieras para terminar lo que te hayas servido. Aunque los precios a la carta son elevados, el precio del bufete es muy accesible, además de que se sirve muy completo, tiene varias opciones de guisado, fruta, huevos al gusto y mucho más. Además puedes ordenar varios platillos dentro del mismo bufete. El costo del bufete es de $210 (en 2023), pero para huéspedes del Gran Hotel Diligencias baja a $180, lo que resulta bastante atractivo.

Lo bueno: El bufete, el costo del bufete, el servicio, la variedad del bufete, las instalaciones, la ubicación, el menú.

Lo malo: los precios del menú a la carta son elevados, incluso para la zona. Los jugos ofertados en el bufete pocas veces son naturales, suelen ser más bien de caja.
