Baluarte de la Soledad — Attraction in Zona Centro

The visit to the Baluarte de la Soledad (Museum of Mayan architecture) was very pleasant.

The exhibition is very well displayed and the pieces in the museum are very beautiful. The temporary exhibition "The Multiple Burial of Uxul, and the phenomenon of ritual violence," was very illustrative and for the children, especially the older one, it was something unimaginable about Mayan culture, which generated many questions.

It is wonderful to see how interest can be awakened with these exhibitions and at the same time how a young and growing mind tries to deal with these ancestral ideas.

The museum is small, the Baluarte offers a pleasant walk through the old walls of the city.

Personally, it was an extremely pleasant visit. The museum staff, especially at the ticket office, was very helpful...

Nice museum located in the old bastion west of the old city near the Puerta Del Mare. Lots of Stella and hieroglyphics with subsequent explanation. Not very extensive but definitely worth while if only to see the jade funeral mask (and other regalia) found in Calakmul. It is quite a sight to behold and you'll leave with a raised level of respect for Mayan history and craftsmanship. Entry fee wasn't very much so definitely worth the visit even tho it's not very big...

Easy “right-there” parking, not expensive to enter $2-3 US. Love the moat and draw-bridge to enter. A great look-out over the sea!! Museum was really interesting too. Definitely worth a quick stop or an hour if you like artifacts and reading about...
