At a distance of 1 km from Rose Garden and 4 km from Ooty Railway Station, the Elk Murugan Temple is a Hindu temple situated atop Elk Hill in Ooty. It is one of the revered temples in Ooty and among the best places to visit in Ooty. Amidst picturesque backdrop and a resplendent setting, the Elk Hill Temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. The highlight of the place is a 40 feet tall statue of Lord Murugan that stands tall outside the enclosures of the temple and attracts pilgrims and devotees from far and wide. The statue is a replica of the Murugan Statue in Batu caves, Malaysia. In addition to that, the temple premises also have idols of Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva, Goddess Shakthi, Nava Kanika, Navagrahas, etc. The hill is surrounded by dense forests. The scenic beauty and calm atmosphere add an extra attraction to the devotees visiting the place. One can get some picturesque views of Ooty town and its surrounding areas from the temple. Besides the gorgeous landscape and astounding panoramic vistas, the hill also boasts of rich and flourishing wildlife and magnanimous nature. Thaipusam is the famous religious festival that is celebrated in the month of January- February to honor the Lord Murugan. A grand procession is held on a particular day from the Sri Mahamariamman Temple towards the Elk Hill. The devotees and the pilgrims follow the procession with large containers containing milk as an offering. Some devotees also carry a carrier decorated with flowers and peacock feathers, called 'kavadi' on their back which also has milk offerings. Great Temple…Amazing view and blessing place of great Murgan Swamy Karthike.. MUST VISIT Place is around 20 to 30 mints away from Ooty main city and way to Elk Hill and Rose garden Ooty.. Temple is situated in between of great atmosphere and surrounding with lovely nature… Temple is of Karthike Swamy,popularly known as Murugan Swamy in Tamilnadu.. a huge statue of Murugun Swamy at right side of main temple. When we visited this place one marriage was going on and got to know there is also small place for yaga and functions to carried out..some rooms are also available with a small hall attached but now sure about renting and all.. Place was very cold when we visited, it was around 9 o clock in morning and all temple steps where so cold.. but after seeing Murugan Swamy you will be get that blessing of god and its seems to be all in happy.. Temple will be opened from morning 8 to 6 PM.. There is no local vehicle service available here,you need to get your vehicle or hire a vehicle.. There is no entry fees or parking fees..you need to park outside temple.. Water facility is available.Not seen toilet here but functional hall might have washrooms. Temple is really devine place and must visit if you are in Ooty..

மலைகளின் அரசி என்றழைக்கப்படும் ஊட்டியில் அமைந்துள்ளது எல்க்ஹில் பாலதண்டாயுதபாணி சுவாமி கோவில். மலையும், மலை சார்ந்த இடமும் குறிஞ்சி என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. குறிஞ்சி நிலத்தில் வாழும் மக்கள் இயற்கையோடு இணைந்து வாழ்ந்து வருகிறார்கள். தமிழகத்தில் சிறந்த மலைவாழிடம் ஊட்டி (உதக மண்டலம்) என்பது அனைவரும் அறிந்தது. ஒத்தக்கல் மந்து என்பதே உதகமண்டலம் என்று மருவியது. மந்து என்றால் மலை என்று பொருள்படும். சென்ற நூற்றாண்டில் ஆங்கிலேயர் ஆண்டபோது நீலகிரி மலையை மேம்படுத்தி, போக்குவரத்து வழிகளை ஏற்படுத்தினர். தென்னகத்தின் கோடைவாசஸ்தலமாகவும் மாற்றினர். அப்போது சமவெளி பகுதி மக்கள் வாணிபத்துக்காகவும், தேயிலை தோட்டங்கள் உள்பட பல்வேறு பணிகளுக்காகவும் இங்கு குடியேறினார்கள். அந்த நேரத்தில் ஊட்டியில் வாழ்ந்த முருக பக்தர்கள் 2 பேர் ஆண்டுதோறும் பழனி சென்று முருகப்பெருமானை தரிசனம் செய்து வருவது வழக்கம். தளர்ச்சி மிகுதியாலோ, வேறு சில காரணங்களினாலோ ஒரு முறை பழனி போக முடியவில்லை. இதனால் முருகப்பெருமான் கனவில் தோன்றி, ஊட்டி நகரில் உள்ள எல்க்ஹில் குன்றிலேயே உறைவதாகவும், இங்கேயே வழிபடுமாறும் அருள் பாலித்தார். இதைத்தொடர்ந்து அவர்கள் 2 பேரும் சேர்ந்து ஊட்டி எல்க்ஹில் மலையில் பாலதண்டாயுதபாணி கோவிலை நிறுவியதாக வரலாறு கூறுகிறது. தாமரை மலர் : ஊட்டி பஸ் நிலையத்தில் இருந்து பார்த்தால் எதிரே தெரியும் மலைப்பகுதி தான் எல்க்ஹில் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. ‘எல்க்’ என்ற வகை மான்கள் இந்த குன்றம் முழுவதும் நிறைந்து இருந்ததாம்... அதனால் எல்க்மலை என்றும், மான் குன்றம் என்றும் அழைக்கப்பட்டு, தற்போது எல்க்ஹில் என்று மாறி விட்டது. மிகவும் அமைதியான அழகிய சூழலில் அமைந்துள்ள இந்த இடத்துக்கு செல்லும் போது முதலில் பாத விநாயகர் காட்சி தருகிறார். பக்தர் களின் வசதிக்காக தார்சாலை போடப்பட்டுள்ளது. விநாயகரை தரிசித்து விட்டு சற்று மேல்நோக்கி வலதுபுறம் திரும்பி சில அடி தூரம் நடந்து சென்றால் ஜலகண்டேஸ்வரி அம்மன் சன்னிதி இருக்கிறது. அங்கு அம்மன் தாமரை மலரில் 4 கரங்களுடன் அருள் பாலித்து வருகிறார். அருகில் விநாயகர் உள்ளார். அதற்கு முன்புறம் கொற்றவையான துர்க்கை அம்மன் சன்னிதியும், அங்கு மகிடனை வென்ற அம்பிகையின் தோற்றம் அழகுற வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. சுவாமி சன்னிதிக்கு கீழே ஜலகண்டேஸ்வரர் லிங்கவடிவமாக காட்சி அளிக்கிறார். முருகப்பெருமான் : அங்கிருந்து சற்று மேல் நோக்கி நடந்து சென்றால் தனிக்கோவில் கொண்டு பாலதண்டாயுத பாணி வீற்றிருக்கிறார். பழனி முருகப்பெருமான் போலவே காட்சி அளிக்கிறார். தலையில் அக்க மாலையும், ஒரு கரத்தில் தண்டமும், ஒரு கரம் இடுப்பில் வைத்த கோலத்தில் மிக அழகாக காட்சி அளிக்கிறார். கோவிலில் ஆண்டுதோறும் தைப்பூசம், பங்குனி உத்திரம் மற்றும் வைகாசி விசாகத்தையொட்டி திருவிழா நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. விழாவில் முருகன் சிறப்பு அலங்காரத்தில் முக்கிய வீதிகள் வழியாக திருவீதி உலா வருவார். மேலும் மாதந்தோறும் கிருத்திகை நாட்களில் சிறப்பு பூஜைகள் செய்யப்படுகிறது. தினமும் காலை 6 மணிக்கு கோவில் நடை திறக்கப்பட்டு பூஜை நடத்தப்படுகிறது. பழனி முருகன் கோவிலில் உள்ள மூலவர் பாலதண்டாயுதபாணியின் வடிவமைப்பு போல, எல்க்ஹில் முருகன் கோவிலில் முருகப்பெருமானின் வடிவமைப்பும் உள்ளது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
