My partner surprised me with a trip to Amsterdam for my 40th. It was a purely botanical based trip. We went looking for this University Garden and I was over the moon to find it. It is such a little gem and free to get into! The Cacti collection is fantastic and we spoke to the young chap who looked after the collection for ages. He was so enthusiastic and passionate and a pleasure to chat too. All the the work he does is voluntary and its mind blowing. He had the best handlebar moustache too! I do hope he sees this as he was so nice, but we didn't get his name. I have a love for unusual woodland perennials and the garden did not disappoint on that front, some really unusual stock. Read moreHidden gem of Amsterdam. The garden has a big collection of amazing unique plants. People working here are so friendly. You can easily have a chat about the plants and get some gardening tips. It’s such a great addition to the visit.
The best part are benches hidden all over the garden, so you can find a lovely spot to read a book or just enjoy the nature surrounding you.
The green houses are also very interesting and make you feel like you’re at some exotic place.
There is a small shop where you can buy some plants, postcards, plant accessories (pots). It’s also possible to buy some beverages and snacks. The sitting area in front is very lovely.
