Station Arnhem Centraal — Attraction in Arnhem

The station is clean and overall good, but it has fallen prey to having separate check in gates. Some are for NS - which is the common case in the Netherlands - but they also have Arriva gates. The Arriva gates are indistinguishable from the NS gates and work with the OV chipcard.

If you don't know this, you can easily make a mistake and check in through the Arriva gate and then travel to a place where there is no Arriva check out.

An NS conductor will then tell you your ticket is invalid, and you need a new one. Once you buy the NS ticket you now have to figure out how to request a refund for Arriva and hope for the best.

Sad to see an overall good train stationfall introduce borderline treacherous practices (many people just wont bother to spend time researching how to ask for a refund) of a private vendor.

I loved this station. It is clean, beautifully designed and hosts a variety of convenient services. Impressive- especially compared to the stations I traveled through in Germany. The station features a special entry restriction. You can only enter or exit with a valid ticket. This makes it free of non travelers. I love the convenient store on the overpass and on the platform, in addition there is a coffee shop stand at platform level and they even think of little ledges along various buildings around the coffee stand to place your coffee cup on while waiting for the train. In Germany I sometimes had issues figuring out which platform I was on, which trains comes next, the services provided on the train and the coach order ( first, second class, etc.) as they don’t organize the info in an easy to understand fashion. Het is een station waar je makkelijk in en uit kunt komen, zelfs tijdens drukke periodes. Bovendien liggen de bushaltes niet ver van de perrons, waardoor het station een handige overstapplaats is voor reizigers die hun reis willen voortzetten met de bus.
