☆ Volendam, położone nad zatoką Zuiderzee, to jedno z najpiękniejszych miasteczek rybackich w Holandii.

☆ Volendam, located on the Zuiderzee Bay, is one of the most beautiful fishing towns in the Netherlands. It impresses with its amazing buildings along the waterfront and the beautiful wooden facades of the buildings. ☆ The town changed its character when the bay was mostly part of it closed in 1932. Since then, the city has begun to become a tourist destination, to which its close distance from Amsterdam and the city's appearance in art. Many artists found inspiration for their works in the port of Volendam. Just for this reason, Pablo Picasso and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. ☆ Today Volendam is considered by many to be a tourist trap. Such opinion is not unreasonable - unfortunately, we will not meet here today houses inhabited by fishermen or any fish processing. All buildings along the promenade have been converted into restaurants or stores geared towards tourists. Nevertheless, the original facades are still preserved of the buildings and the whole thing looks really cool. Sometimes, too, on the promenade the crowd is hard to bear, it happens often in waves - and these are waves of tourists coming here in groups. Sometimes it's enough to wait a while until the street gets decidedly looser. ☆ The tourist part of Volendam - the waterfront promenade, the main part of which is on the pedestrianized Haven Street and its immediate surroundings - is only suitable for exploring on foot, and it's rather hard to imagine any other way to explore...

Beautiful place/villege to visit, life may be different/difficult in extreme winters. Facing harbour/jetty, this place has remarkable tradition of beautifying front windows/courtyards of the houses and there is healthy competition about it among the local residents here. Have a walk through, one will find tastefully decorated, with or without flowers, the front of the houses. The landmark property Visafslag has quiet a commercial activity area around, gift/souvenirs shops, eateries/restaurants-especially reasonably priced sea food, cheese making/selling units, pubs.... frequented by both tourists and locals. The location is quiet scenic, blend of nature and man made things in harmony.......

Volendam is a short distance travel from Amsterdam Centraal (get the Waterland day ticket for unlimited bus ride to Volendam/ Marken and other areas nearby there). Thought this place will be a place to relax but it is not. Suggest you to be here earlier as this area will be flooded with tourist if you reach here in the afternoon. Nothing much to see here too (other than souvenirs, cheese factory, café, restaurant and the seaside view). Not really recommend other than if you have too much free time in Amsterdam and no other...

Nice place to enjoy one afternoon, so long as not during holiday season. The place is very touristy and will be so crowded during summer time or holiday season. One of the main attractions for tourists is the photo studio facilities that rent traditional clothes. Best to come in the afternoon.
