Het Nieuwe Domein — Attraction in Sittard-Geleen

Museum Historie & Archeologie De Domijnen - Erfgoedcentrum

I stumbled upon this little free museum while out for a walk today. A kind gentleman who worked there noticed me looking at a statue outside, welcomed me in, and provided a stack of papers with much of the information about the resistance exhibit translated into English.

The exhibit focused on the occupation of Sittard during World War II by the Germans and the subsequent liberation by the Americans. It was both educational and moving.

The museum is thoughtfully equipped with lockers for your belongings and coat hangers for the colder months. They even offer complimentary coffee, which was a lovely touch.

In addition to the WWII exhibit, there was a small display about coal mining in the area, some intriguing tapestries, a unique sound box that replicated nature sounds (possibly used by miners), and a video showing a drone with antlers flying over what appeared to be a deforested landscape.

The staff was incredibly helpful, even providing me with the Wi-Fi information so I could translate additional details on my own.

Dit museum is een onderdeel van Het nieuwe Domein. Vandaag bezocht ik de expositie SIDES, kunst / design van plaatselijke kunstenaars. Een zeer mooie collectie met uiteenlopende voorwerpen voor in huis en om te dragen. Alles is te koop.

De expositie is op de begane grond. Er is een toilet voor rolstoelgebruikers. De andere toiletten zijn in de kelder.
