There a pretty good connecting trains and buses and even the NS bikes(bicycle) from the nearest station Steenwijk. A bike ride from station to Giethoorn is fun, my personal experience. The best way to visit this place is to book a boat for yourself prior your visit via Internet so you don't waste your time in search of it which ultimately results in not getting a boat to hang out.
