Geithoorn.. wonderful place about 100 miles from central Amsterdam.. very close to Nature.. wonderful canal leading to the sea and nice place to sail for Giethoorn tour across restaurants, wonderful scenic houses.. Giethoorn (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɣitɦoːr(ə)n]) is a town in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands with a population of 2,795 in 2020. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 5 km southwest of Steenwijk. As a popular Dutch tourist destination both within Netherlands and abroad, Giethoorn is often referred to as "Dutch Venice" (Dutch: Hollands Venetië) or the "Venice of the Netherlands" Peaceful place to spend quality time with friends and family. Great museum about Giethoorn, a must visit while in Giethoorn! We got lucky; once a year there is a good tasting where you can try dishes with Dutch recipes over 100 years old. This happened to be last weekend when we visited the Venice of The Netherlands! The very friendly volunteers will answer all your questions. 😊 While in The Netherlands, do also visit Arnhem! Nice museum, terrible experience The museum itself is quite nice with the informative audio guide and the replication of old Dutch village house. However, the old man and the old lady at the counter gave me the worst experience ever on my second visit. The loud, furious shoutsss of OUT when me and my friends were just trying to see if the toilets were open for non-visitors to use with a small fee totally washed away the pleasant memories of the previous time. I’ve never encountered such unfriendly Dutch people…

The museum has a great exhibit of life in the farm in the Dutch 50’s. The displays are very clear ( FREE audio guide in 5 languages ) and it seems like you can touch many things or even play with some stuff or dress up! Awesome! They really know how to present. It’s quiet cheap to enter and they have free bathrooms, which are clean. There’s several exhibits outside and they even have a stork nest. Highly recommend to come en view life in the 50’s in Giethorn.
