Waikaraka Park is Auckland's best kept sporting venue secret. I am not talking about the stock cars that utilise a mere fraction of the park but of the sports fields and Trust buildings that for most seem hidden away from the public behind the historic stone walls that surround them. Yet behind those walls is a public green space like no other in Auckland. Home to both the oldest independent cricket Association in NZ and the 2017 Chatham Cup football Champions, the park is resplendid in being one of the very few that offer all grass cricket wickets having steadfastly resisted the installing of concrete pitches. The on site facilities include public toilets, a functions venue complete with balcony with great views across the green expanse of seven cricket fields with the prominent backdrop of Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill) in the background. So come walk your dog (but clean up after you) or fly a kite with your kids, play frisbee or just kick a ball a round, just respect the facilities and other users of what is a secret well kept, in the heart of Onehunga's Nielson St...

Some grandstand seating around the circuit. Some disabled parking at the entrance. Quite uneven and rough ground around the circuit so if you use crutches or a walking stick, walker be VERY careful. Wheelchair uses would find it difficult to find a suitable place to view the racing from. Plenty of toilets around the stands. Sells food and drinks. Alcohol available, to be drunk in bar area only. Disabled toilet under the Clubrooms. A good fun night out with the family, a little dusty at times and can be cold as the...
Read moreTotally awesome night at Waikaraka Park for the sick cars and fireworks extravaganza. Some incredible talent in the super saloons with an epic battle finale. The events are all well run and the folks that attend, love their racing. The location is great but it does need some love. The facilities are ok, but a bit run down. Queues for food, drinks, and toilets can be quite longbut you can bring food and non-alcoholic drinks with you, but no glass, as a rule. A fun family night at the races, getting rowdy. And if you like it dirty, do sit at the end to get amongst it. Thank you team and racers of Waikaraka...
