Saltwater Burger Bar — Restaurant in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

Im not a local but heard about this place thru the grapevine a while ago and finally decided to make the 25min drive to try it for myself to see what all the hype was about. So 6 of us went and ordered all different burgers (they all looked delish & similar to Wisconsins), unfortunately 2 of us had to change our option as they ran out of beef patties (guess this shows their popularity ... and also we went in the evening) but they did reduce the price to account for it. Secondly, we ordered when we got there and was told it would be ready in about an hour! Unless you like waiting - learn from my rookie mistake and pre-order before you leave home ...especially during their busy dinner times. We all tried different burgers and everyone loved it & said they would definitely return & reorder. I ordered the chicken cranburger which was good but i was just a tiny bit disappointed I didnt have much cranberry or brie (compared to the Wisconsin CCC burger that I love). Really disappointed with our first visit here. After we ordered, we were told there would be a 20 minute wait (which is all good for a Friday night). There was only one other couple in there waiting when we ordered. But we actually waited over 55 minutes for our food. In this time at least 4 other people/groups came in, ordered food and left before us. No apologies for the wait time, despite apologizing to people who had been waiting less than us. When we did get it, the burgers were pretty much cold (definitely not warm/hot). The loaded fries were hot though, it seemed like our burgers were made and then left on the side until the loaded fries were done. The ingredients seemed really fresh and the burgers could have been amazing if they were warm/hot. The overall experience deserve 4.5 star, but kid meal set which is perfect size burger with cheese and sauce, drink and fries for $8.5 bridge the gap to make it 5 star. My recommendation to owner. The order area is unnecessary large. I rather you make it smaller and leave more space for kitchen. But fully insulate the order area from smokes and smell of kitchen. We were there for 2 min‌, the smell and smoke made it hard for us to concentrate to read burger descriptions. Providing that little sauce for 1$ is not helping costumers as well. Recommendation for eaters: the garden space is nice, please make sure to spray some mosquito repellant before coming there, they have some blanket but best to bring warm clothes....select your burger from menu here, the smoke and smell is too much in the shop to read the details. We will definitely visit this...
