Waikaraka Family Speedway — Local services in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

A great speedway track let down by its budget.

Parking here is never a problem with a large carpark and adjacent field to accommodate any overflow.

The track is generally well prepared and offers some great racing for all classes.

Its a shame the large concrete bleachers have been condemned and unsafe for spectators, leaving many to sit on the grass banks all night.

The speakers are not loud enough so commentary is barely audible and the track lighting is inadequate to illuminate the track at night.

Toilets are very clearly showing their age but atleast they are provided. Food vendors are mainly independent so they provide a better service.

Hopefully a larger budget will be allowed in the future and the track can be brought up to modern standards for the thousands of fans and drivers that visit the park...

We go to a fair amount of racing so we get a good feel for what you can expect and what you should expect. Go to Stratford and you will see just how good the food is and the fair pricing. Chips are fresh and hot and there's a good variety of food at sensible prices. Price is often based on cost of the site rental so that can vary. What shouldn't is food quality and variety. Waikaraka park is sorely let down in this area. This is not a one off or just me. Sadly for some time this has been the norm but it needn't be if Stratford can do it properly regularly. I hadn’t been for years & was impressed as they’ve done a lot of work to improve the amenities, grounds & stands also looks like they have upgraded the wire fences around the perimeter of the race track, undoubtedly improving safety for the spectators. Stands also appear to have had an upgrade and have increased in the number of stands increasing the number of seats available which are now more comfortable and cleaner than the previous grimy wood & concrete slab bandstand they had some 20 odd years ago. Enthusiastic Drivers did their sponsors proud competing. An excellent night out that I thoroughly enjoyed!! Was definitely worth the money & I plan to go...
