Someone says it is the best fish n chips store…

When we arrived at 4:59pm, there were 4 people already waiting for the doors to open. It says the n the door they usually open at 4:30pm but today they open at 5. When people are waiting at the door, you know it is going to be good.

5:03 the doors were open and we all entered eagerly waiting to be served.

Being in the South Island Blue Cod is THE fish to have whereas in the North Island it is Snapper.

At $13.50 a piece for Blue Cod, you sort of have to weigh up whether to get it or not. We decided on 1x Cod, 2x Fish (no idea what type of fish it was) and one lot of chips. Came to $29.

The Blue Cod was fresh and lightly battered. It had a nice crunch. I have to say the portion was smallish. It was forked so me and my wife shared a piece each. Cooked to perfection and the fish was falling apart with freshness!

The other two fish was quite flat in comparison, but the batter was thin and crispy. The fish itself was fresh and once again falling apart.

Both fish was really nice to eat. The two fish were huge! And well worth the $6 each. The Blue Cod was $13 and thought it was on the higher price mark. I have to say the Blue Cod is a nicer fish compared to the Snapper.

The chips were well cooked. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

If you are going n Dunedin, this place is a MUST GO FOR...

We spent a couple of months in Dunedin housestting and our host family recommended this as their favourite and ‘the best’ fish and chips in Dunedin. We actually had to drive past 5 other places - albeit less than 10 minutes - to get from Kew to St Kilda and found this F&C shop all by itself down a quiet residential street. The (tiny) trip was worth it - great Fish and Chips - generous servings, fast and fresh (no stale oil here, that’s for sure). Trudy is a great lady and we really miss our weekly treat now that we’ve moved to the next housesit. We’ve tried, variously, the regular fish, hoki, the sole, the calimari, the blue cod... all fabulous. We find Wednesday night to be the best - just turn up and order and it’s no longer than 10 minutes - we have to say - if you’re going Thurs/Fri/Sat - couldn’t hurt to phone ahead and order as this place is super popular with locals...

Slightly old review from a month ago. First takeaway out of lockdown and we opted for fish and chips to enjoy with an older family friend. Had seen great reviews for Marlow so I thought I would try. Used to be put off by the premises (I used to work in the building under a different business/owner in late 2015 which did NOT end well) but I am glad I revisited.

Best fish and chips in Dunedin to date. Great serving on the chips, elephant fish was cooked beautifully, lovely thin batter, and the chicken, bacon and pineapple burger was huge and full of flavour. They weren’t doing thickshakes (understandably), but perhaps...

Was hungry after a day exploring town and wanted to top off the day with some tasty fish and chips. Takeaways on Marlow delivered the goods! Partner and I both had the cheeseburger and shared the battered fish and chips. Chips were served fresh - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, fish was flakey and delicious. Burgers were also great, soft buns and tasty meat patty with the perfect amount of cheese. Will definitely be back next time we come through Dunedin!

This fish & chip shop in St Kilda in Dunedin is highly rated on Google. On a bitter Dunedin night we decided to test that rating. Here, one can order fish ordinaire (i.e elephant fish), hoki, sole, or blue cod. Blue cod was too expensive (seriously!), and the sole was sold out, so we went for hoki. The result? Crisp, thin batter, plenty of fish ((!), and good chips. One of us ordered onion rings, and they were assessed as good. Overall? Good.
