We had a brilliant time on the Free Walking Tour León “The Original”! Our guide was incredibly welcoming, lively, passionate, and knowledgeable. He was so kind and friendly, and it was clear he genuinely wanted everyone in the group to fall in love with León just as much as he has — and he truly passed on that love.
A highlight of the tour was walking through the local market and sampling a wide variety of local produce. It was fun, exciting, and a great opportunity to try things we might not have otherwise. It also felt like a meaningful way to support and connect with local vendors.
We came away feeling like we’d learned a lot about León and Nicaragua more broadly. The visuals — maps and photos — really helped bring the stories to life. We especially appreciated his openness and honesty, and the way he shared perspectives from different generations. It gave us a deeper understanding of the country and culture.
At the end, he stayed to answer all our questions and chatted with us — it felt like he had all the time in the world, which was such a kind and generous touch.
If you’re in León, don’t miss this tour. It’s insightful, engaging, and...
Read moreI have done many free and paid walking tours around the world. Usually you book it through Airbnb, GuruWalk or other platforms. In this way the organisers manage the number of people they are expecting, limiting it to some maximum number in order to provide the best tour conditions possible. Also they check who arrives and if everyone is present. I booked this tour on GuruWalk. Here nobody was checking and people were just joining without limits. Looks like hostels suggest the tour and people just show up. As a result we were 25-30 people and the guide was surprised to see such a large group. Unfortunately he was not able to manage so many people. It was impossible to hear him talking most of the time. It was very bad. Yes, it's a "free" walking tour (with voluntary/mandatory tips) however I don't see any reason to book it in advance if you havr a guide who is not prepared for managing...
Read moreAwesome people work for this tour company and I want them to succeed, but I had multiple bad experiences. On the free walking tour, a local kid was bothering guests with grabbing their water and putting his face inches away from theirs. It was extremely uncomfortable and lasted a long time before the guide said anything. I paid for a Leon Viejo Ruins tour and it was booked on a day that it was CLOSED (Monday), even though I was available on Sunday. The guide pretended like it was their fault, but online, it specially says this. I missed a once in a lifetime experience due to this oversight. The hike down to Laguna Del Tigre gets pretty precarious and steep towards the end. There was trash everywhere too. I would not recommend those with bad shoes or older with limited mobility. Spend more times at the...
