Visiting the Fisherman’s Village Open Museum was a highlight of our trip! The tour was incredibly engaging and informative — our guide was absolutely fantastic. So knowledgeable, passionate, and full of fascinating stories that brought the history of the place to life.

Everything in the museum felt truly authentic, from the traditional fishing gear to the historical buildings. We even got to step inside a genuine fisherman’s cabin and imagine what life was like in the old days. One of the most memorable parts was learning the entire process of making cod liver oil — and even tasting it ourselves (an experience we won’t forget!).

This place offers a unique, hands-on insight into Norway’s coastal heritage and the lives of the people who built it. Highly recommended for anyone interested in culture, history, or just looking for something a bit different and meaningful to do...

On 30 September 2024, we visited the charming fishing village of Å in Lofoten, and it was a wonderful experience! We were particularly impressed by our tour with Valeria, who was a fantastic tour guide. Not only did she patiently answer all our questions, but she also gave us profound insights into the lives of Å's fishermen. It felt like we were stepping back in time and experiencing the authentic life of this picturesque place first hand.

After the tour, we took a well-earned break in the little café and the cinnamon buns were simply heavenly - fresh, moist and perfectly flavoured. The coffee was also excellent, just the thing after an eventful day.

Å is definitely worth a visit! We found it much more authentic and cheaper than the overpriced Nusfjord. If you really want to experience the soul of the Lofoten Islands, you should definitely not miss this gem. Absolutely...

Å is a quaint fishing / tourist village almost at the tip of the Lofoten Island chain. The village itself sits at the base of one of the many up-thrusts of mountainous rock that make up the Lofoten island chain. This makes for a surreal Vista as you stand at sea level in the village and look up or out a Ross the Atlantic ocean / Norwegian Sea. The gift shop here was great for the usual tourist fare and the cafe and bakery on site serve up the typical Norwegian tourist foods. Definitely a must see when touring the Lofoten Islands.

Dommage. Nous sommes amers. Bonne chance à vous!
