The Norwegian Maritime Museum (Norsk Maritimt Museum) in Oslo is a fascinating institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing Norway's rich maritime heritage. Located on the Bygdøy Peninsula, the museum offers a comprehensive look at Norway's deep connection to the sea, which has been central to its culture, economy, and history. The museum houses a collection of historic boats and ships, including traditional wooden vessels, fishing boats, and even replicas of Viking ships. These exhibits provide insight into the evolution of shipbuilding and maritime technology in Norway. A highlight of the museum is its extensive collection of model ships, which range from ancient vessels to modern cruise ships. These models are meticulously crafted and provide a detailed look at the design and function of different types of ships.

The Norwegian Maritime Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in maritime history, naval architecture, or the cultural significance of the sea in Norwegian life. It provides a comprehensive and engaging experience that appeals to both casual visitors and maritime...

I really cannot comprehend the positive reviews - because after having visited Fram before going over, this was an utter disappointment.

The good thing: it's easy to get there, the bus stop is right in front of it and busses run frequently.

The staff at the museum is really friendly and helpful - the contents of the museum were rather boring, as I was expecting something else. A lot of plastic versions of ships, here and there a collection of what people had carried with them on longer trips and such, but clearly not enough things if the real deal for me. I wouldn't recommend a visit - FRAM alone is...

Disappointment! For a nation with such a tradition in navigation, I was expecting something completely different. The only things are the building itself, which has a special architecture and the section dedicated to children. Otherwise, nothing, a small and dull museum. Few exhibits, some information in text or image format (drawings) and that's it. There is also a library but it is not an attraction for a visitor from abroad. There is also an OK cafe, where you can have a not very complex snack and have a drink. The outdoor terrace has a very beautiful view. One hour is enough...

Having already visited the Viking Ship, Kon-Tiki and Fram museums, for me this is the least interesting of the maritime museums. It deals more with the developments in maritime technology (there is an interactive area) there is also a maritime art gallery here with some great paintings, I thought was the best bit of this museum. At the lower level you can watch a very picturesque unnaratted film projected across five screens showing historic still photos and video flying over some of the beautiful Nordic scenery. I would say this museum is the most focused on children of the four.
