Quite small maritime museum, that can be visited before FRAM and/or kon tiki museum. This is because those two museums mentioned are separate. But you can see here some large ship models, a viking ship construction section, where you can see a real live demonstration for a boat building. This must be very interesting (we reached late in the day and missed -> check the times for the demonstration. There is also a ship cabin where you can go and see how the boat looked at that time. I love also the paintings displayed, great art.

Having already visited the Viking Ship, Kon-Tiki and Fram museums, for me this is the least interesting of the maritime museums. It deals more with the developments in maritime technology (there is an interactive area) there is also a maritime art gallery here with some great paintings, I thought was the best bit of this museum. At the lower level you can watch a very picturesque unnaratted film projected across five screens showing historic still photos and video flying over some of the beautiful Nordic scenery. I would say this museum is the most focused on children of the four.

If you have a time only for two museum, I advise you to skip this one and choose Kon-Tiki and Fram. Here you can see different variants of cruise liners and also there is a small part of a cabin. There is a big library on site and the whole floor for children with an entertaining exposition and game zone. Good cafeteria with sandwiches and snacks is available. There are also museum passes for 2 or 3 museums (Fram, Kon-Tiki, Maritime Museum) with a reduced price. ROAD: you can reach the museum by ferry or by bus.

A great museum on the naval and maritime History of Oslo. I loved the section on Viking ship recreation in lieu of the museum which is being renovated. The museum also has a beautiful gallery of maritime art and an extensive children section. I was slightly dissapointed by some of the interactive exhibits in the childrens section which were functioning properly. In particular a game on shipping planning which stopped functioning After 3 mins of use and was very likely overheating.

Norway is a seafaring nation, and this museum pays tribute to its maritime history. The basement currently holds a small Viking boat and display while the Viking Boat Museum undergoes renovation, while the main floor is devoted to episodes from centuries of maritime history. It is the most generic of the trio of museums in this part of Bygdøy, but is helpful for setting the context. The café is also a good place to stop for a coffee break or light lunch.

The exhibits in the museum on coast culture and maritime history cover many subjects including ship building, boat models, fishing, marine archeology, and shipping. The video "Maritime Norway" by Ivo Caprino and a library are also a part of the museum experience. Additionally the museum has a marine archaeological department. The museum also displays a collection of more than 40 maritime paintings by notable artists. Highly recommended!
