A Humble Beginning in an Unlikely Place
Would you believe that one of the most peaceful pilgrimage sites in Laguna is inside a university known for agriculture and science? Back in the 1980s, a small chapel was built here to serve the Catholic community of UPLB. At first, it was just a simple place for students, faculty, and locals to gather in prayer. But over time, devotion to St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus—the young Carmelite nun known for her “Little Way” of doing small things with great love—grew stronger.
A Shrine That Speaks to the Heart
Recognizing its growing spiritual significance, the chapel was elevated to a Diocesan Shrine in 2007. It became a pilgrimage site for those drawn to St. Thérèse’s message of humility, love, and trust in God. Unlike grand cathedrals, this shrine stays true to her spirit—it’s simple, intimate, and full of warmth.
The design reflects peace and devotion, from its stained glass windows to the tranquil gardens where you can just sit and breathe. And yes, it houses a relic of St. Thérèse herself, making it even more special for those seeking her intercession.
Why It’s More Than Just a Shrine
What makes this place unique? It sits inside a university known for science and research, yet it thrives as a center of faith. It reminds us that faith and knowledge can go hand in hand, that even in the pursuit of learning, the heart still longs for meaning. Many students have come here over the years to pray for guidance, and many return with stories of answered prayers.
So, if you ever find yourself in Los Baños, Laguna, whether you’re a pilgrim, a traveler, or just someone searching for a moment of peace, this shrine welcomes you. Because sometimes, the greatest miracles come from the...
