Pick up and Return Process 3/5 - The Positive: Pick up and return process is really pretty convenient without the need to actually go anywhere to pick up the vehicle as they can send it to the place of residence. This allows for very good flexibility as you can ask for the vehicle as early as possible and return as late as possible to maximize vehicle use and not need to hurry and meet opening/closing timings. That being said, the person sending the vehicle over was a tad bit later then the planned (the traffic is probably the issue), so do add some buffer and request for the vehicle slightly earlier.
Also, the person who passed the car to us, also put in the requisite car tags and cash cards to be used, and was able to top it up for use so we did not have any additional complication on getting these random small requirements for vehicle use. They provided to directly seek any clarification or follow up on the rental itself.
The Negative: Now the main issue met with this vehicle and also would be good advice to foreigners renting (like myself).
Metro Manila has an obscure unique ruling about vehicle use based on the last digit of the license plate, but the company policy only focused on ensuring that the vehicle will not have timing clash with this ruling only on pick-up or return date and in my case, there was one day when I drove and clashed with the ruling resulting in getting stuck with enforcement with hardly any clue what the issue was. As you all could guess, dealing with enforcement in Manila is probably the worse possible experience you would want to have and this could have been easily avoided by a well considered vehicle selected that would have been good for the entire short rental period (of course if you rented for a week or more there will be a day of clashing during the entire period), OR by the rental company outright informing users of this obscure rule so that planning can be done around this. The situation could have turned out very badly in many different ways depending on the enforcement interaction and I could have completely lost a day of use of the vehicle.
After some discussion with the customer service, some restitution was in order and customer service did endeavour to do better so here is hoping that they will improve in some aspects of their communication and customer-orientedness in the future, and they did share that they are continually improving to ensure that this is not an issue in the future.
Vehicle Choices 4/5 - The categories of vehicles that can be chosen from is pretty wide (I had checked with another similar rental company nearby whose next applicable vehicle was too big for 2, and would end up paying for space not needed, or more diesel that was burnt unnecessarily.)
Vehicle Performance 4.5/5 - Vehicle was good and got a MG ZS, surprisingly new, well maintained and in good condition. Of course it is not the top-trims complete with high end technology like radar cruise control and lane control assists but in a environment like Philippines, you probably have to control the vehicle manually in most situations anyway.
Price 4/5 - Price was definitely fair, and even the additional cost to get the car washed due to it being dirtied in my case because we were driving out of town to the more rural areas, it was close enough to market prices to just pay to the company to offset the difficulty of actually washing the car, or finding a car wash. With many vehicle choices, you could also choose the correct vehicle for your purpose at the appropriate price points.
Overall 3.88/5 - Basically the vehicle and price were good and extremely functional for use, with the entire experience only being marred by the impact resulting from providing a vehicle that cannot be used on a specific day. I would still rent from them in the future, but thanks to the experience with the local enforcement, I probably wouldn't visit the region again which hugely due to the fault of the local enforcement with a small part by the rental company whom I hope will continue to improve on...
Read moreAs a seasoned business traveler, I have encountered my fair share of rental experiences, some good and some not so great. However, my recent encounter with VIP Cars Manila has completely redefined my standards for car rental services in the Philippines.
Let me start by highlighting the impeccable convenience offered by VIP Cars Manila. From the moment I touched base in Manila, their proactive communication set the tone for a seamless experience. Prior to my arrival, they sought my vehicle preferences and flight details to ensure a swift pickup at the airport. Their use of WhatsApp for real-time updates, even accommodating delays, showcased their commitment to excellent service.
The moment I was greeted by their driver, it was evident that convenience was a top priority. Within a short 5-minute drive from the airport, we conducted necessary paperwork and a thorough vehicle inspection at a nearby gas station. The Toyota Fortuner I selected was not only new but boasted a mere 19,000-mile history, guaranteeing a smooth and reliable ride as I embarked on my journey towards Pangasinan.
When the time came to bid farewell to the SUV after a week of dependable service, VIP Cars Manila once again exceeded expectations. They flawlessly arranged for the vehicle's pickup at my hotel in Makati, showcasing their unwavering dedication to customer convenience and satisfaction.
VIP Cars Manila's blend of convenience, competitive rates, and top-notch fleet quality has truly left an indelible mark on my business travel experience. Without a doubt, I can confidently say that I would choose VIP Cars Manila again in a heartbeat for any future trips to Manila. My only regret is not discovering this outstanding rental company sooner!
If you're a discerning business traveler like myself, seeking a rental experience that's not just good but exceptional, VIP Cars Manila is the undisputed choice that will surpass your expectations time and time again. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. - Rodney Rodchata (San...
Read moreThere's a deposit requirement of 5K on top of the van rental that you pay up front. I don't find this in other car rentals (Enterprise, Hertz, etc.) but made the deposit just the same. Just wondering why VPI can only return the 5k deposit in seven (7) days, which is long. Deposits should be released as soon as unit is returned. I rented a van unit for a Baguio trip. It was delivered to my house but not the kind that can be used for long trips. Commuter hiace is for grade school bus, with bench seats that do not recline, no head rests, and hardly a leg room for an adult on its row seats. Moreover, during the uphill and downhill drives within Baguio City, the vehicle's clutch lining wore out and by the time we got to TPLEX back to Manila, the car wouldn't run any faster than 30 KPH. We pulled over near Binalonan exit. Called VPI for help, and after like a dozen calls, I was assured of a pick up in Binalonan in 3 hours time (it was 8:45 p.m. when VPI called back). Before the pick up service arrived, I was able to arrange a towing service which was referred to me by the TPLEX patrol guy who spotted us. Kudos to Liones Doctora, the patrol guy! Pick up service (another Commuter Hiace) arrived around 10:45 p.m. On the way back to Manila, the driver drove at a speed of 160- to 180 kph. I asked him why he was driving so fast, (and even raced with another vehicle) and why his commuter hiace can run at such speeds. He explained that he owns the van and is an outsource, and that he still has a trip to make in the morning. (found out that his van's engine has been modified/remapped.) Except for the clutch failure and the scary ride back to Manila, my experience with the rental was quite ok. Appreciate that a pick up service was arranged for us after the rental...
