Sopot Lighthouse — Attraction in Sopot

Known locally as Latarnia Morska Sopot, is a unique and charming landmark situated near the entrance to the Sopot Pier.

Originally constructed in 1904 as a chimney for a balneotherapy center, it was cleverly designed to resemble a lighthouse, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal. In 1977, after the installation of a more powerful light with a range of 17 nautical miles, it officially gained lighthouse status. However, in 1999, its range was reduced to 7 nautical miles, and it no longer meets the criteria of a lighthouse, though it retains the name and continues to emit light at night.   

Visitors can climb the 30-meter-high tower via a spiral staircase of 135 steps to reach the observation deck, which offers panoramic 360-degree views of Sopot, the Baltic Sea, and the surrounding areas. The entrance fee is 10 PLN for adults and 8 PLN for children, with group discounts available. Opening hours vary by season, typically from 10:00 to 16:00, extending to 21:00 during the summer months.

Latarnia morska w Sopocie stanowi jeden z bardziej charakterystycznych elementów sopockiego krajobrazu. Znajduje się w lądowej części mola, w tzw. części kuracyjnej i tworzy kompleks z Zakładem Balneologicznym. Obiekt ten wybudowany w latach 1903-1904 jako Zakład Kąpielowy według projektu Heinricha Dunkela i Paula Puchmüllera obecnie należy do kompleksu Wojewódzkiego Szpitala Reumatologicznego. Budynek ozdobiony jest rzeźbami i witrażami. Nad głównym portalem ulokowane są rzeźby syreny i trytona dłuta Fenzloffa oraz, jeden z najstarszych w Sopocie, herb miasta. Okna sali zabiegowej posiadają secesyjne witraże Ferdynanda Müllera z Quedlinburga. Latarnia Morska to tak naprawdę komin kotłowni znajdujący się w północno-wschodnim narożniku budynku, który został obudowany wieżą na przekroju kwadratu. Po obwodzie komina biegną spiralne schody żelbetowe. W 1975 roku Zakład Balneologiczny modernizowano i powstał projekt przebudowania komina kotłowni na wieżę widokową. U jej szczytu znajduje się oszklona galeria widokowa pełniąca również funkcję latarni morskiej.Po II Wojnie Światowej na wieży zainstalowano światła nawigacyjne o małym zasięgu 5 Mm. Wymieniono je w roku 1977 na układ optyczny składający się z lampy obrotowej produkcji szwedzkiej o zasięgu 17 Mm.
