The Igreja do Espírito Santo, made a Baroque Interpretation Center, is the first of the “time stations” through which the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) of Alto Minho is promoting and boosting the historical and cultural heritage of the region – ten councils, ten seasons , ten visit routes. In Arcos de Valdevez, the chronological door opens to the Baroque. And, as this is an artistic style that emerged in Catholic countries as a response to the Protestant Reformation, it is not surprising that it is in religious buildings that the Baroque marks the most “taste” of the time. Churches, chapels and sanctuaries make up the vast majority of the 40 visit points identified for this Alto Minho Baroque Route.
