I was here in October 2007. It is the only time I was in Portugal. Now a friend is going and I am retracing my steps. I loved this village. I have wanted to go back here to a quaint gift shop to purchase a nice compass they had in brass. Remember when you travel, you'll regret the things you didn't do. So when there don't put off purchasing something you'd really enjoy. This village has a looooong history and colorful, too. I recommend it on a list of things to see. Don't make it a destination, but more of a point of interest. I don't know about hotels, etc. We got here late morning and spent three hours walking the streets and Castle, had lunch and then continued on our tour of cork tree areas, museums and back to Fuezeta. Enjoy. The people are so nice. Even when the street ran out and I had the car on a walkway.... they came outside to watch me back up and then six locals broke into spontaneous...

We stumped up on this little beautiful peaceful well maintained town on the way from Spain to Lisbon. The castle is so well maintained with all renovated levels that have wooden and marble stairs and museum floors with a local staff who was extremely nice and knowledgeable to tell us about the town. Everyone who worked here was so nice, proud and educated of their own town. The entry fee is FREE. I'm super impressed with how they very well managed to maintain their history, the whole neighborhood and castle. So much respect for these people and this town. The whole atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing. We also stopped by a restaurant down the tiny street and the food was so delicious and healthy. Highly...

Mértola us a great place to visit... Lots of green, river nearby, cozy little town, happy people.. A lot of small street's, not so easy to walk because of all the hill's but still worth the trip. Lots of good restaurants, excellent food's, and great wines to try out around here..tapas is a must-have, and the typical Portuguese cafe's are pleasant and cheerful... Beautiful architecting in the main square area. Children friendly, not so friendly for people with wheelchair...Lots of old roads and small street's with old floors. Great views for photography enthusiasts!! Try out the restaurant: Terra Utópica! It's wonderful and they have a genius in that...

CASTILLO DE MERTOLA. PORTUGAL.
