Convento de São Francisco — Attraction in Vila Franca do Campo

The Convento is a special, beautiful place. We hosted our 60 person wedding here and reserved the space for a 3 day weekend, despite having not visited in person. When we arrived, we were so lucky to find that it was both grand and unpretentious, gorgeous and serene. The space gave us a sense of calm and elegance that lasted through our wedding.

There are so many small areas to gather around the Convento, and we found our friends and family enjoying the various nooks. The ocean view was stunning and we spent a lot of time on the roof looking out over Vila Franca. Many people enjoyed the firepit in the back and the pineapples growing in the greenhouse. The long breakfast tables and generous spread were enjoyed every morning. The rooms were spacious and made it easy to get ready. The kitchen allowed our kosher friends to keep food in storage. It completely exceeded my expectations and I am so grateful to have been able to enjoy the historic Convento.

I also want to recognize Manuela. She went out of her way to care for us, tidy the space, and move around art so we could decorate for the wedding. Her team kept the breakfast area well-stocked, and were so hospitable and kind. We hope to be back again...

Avevamo prenotato, con molto entusiasmo, questo albergo per l'ultima isola del nostro tour, convinti dalle recensioni di chiudere in bellezza. Nelle presentazioni l'albergo si atteggia a "posada" , in virtù della sua location (questa si di livello) all'interno di un convento molto bello e originale. Ma a parte, appunto, questo aspetto e la piscina (che, peraltro, a noi non interessava) di posada aveva ben poco e siamo rimasti molto delusi , visto anche che è stato il soggiorno dove abbiamo speso di più fra tutti.||Elenco, in ordine sparso, i difetti registrati nella stanza:||1) buia , in quanto praticamente priva di luci (solo quelle dei comodini) , con il finestrone , senza parapetto, oscurato da un grosso albero 2) ripiani/mensole quasi del tutto assenti 3) in una specie di cabina armadio c'erano solo due stampelle (alla richiesta di avene altre hanno detto che non ce ne erano) 4) un apparecchio elettrico anti-zanzara esaurito, che abbiamo appositamente tolto e messo in bella vista per evidenziare che andava cambiato (che poi è stato portato via e non sostituito) 5) quattro cassettiere tutte piene (carta igienica, coperte etc..) che abbiamo dovuto svuotare per avere un minimo di posto per riporre la roba 6) umidità 7) il bagno era pieno di boccette di shampoo (numero imprecisato), ma non aveva il phon (che abbiamo dovuto chiedere a parte). Inoltre era un bagno cieco (ci può stare) , ma senza ventilatore!!! 8) sempre il bagno, forse per via del maltempo, dal secondo giorno ha incominciato, ogni tanto, a puzzare di fogna 9) gli orari delle pulizie erano stringenti , per cui ci siamo ritrovati un paio di volte , tornati dalla colazione, a dover aspettare di rientrare in stanza (in genere si fanno quando i clienti escono definitivamente dalla struttura).||La struttura era veramente molto bella, ma in molte parti bisognosa di manutenzione (e in effetti abbiamo visto giacere all'ingresso del cortile parecchi bidoni di vernice per cui desumo che a breve facciano qualcosa). ||Passando alla colazione, la qualità era buona, ma , p.e., mancavano stranamente gli affettati, per non dire che i posti a sedere erano troppo ristretti (visto anche che si trattava di tre tavoli grandi con molti coperti ognuno) . Il wi-fi in stanza era buono, mentre era praticamente assente nella sala-bar di intrattenimento.||A chiudere la persistente segnalazione del POS non funzionante (un albergo del genere dovrebbe avere un contratto di assistenza che in 24 ore risolve tutto) e quindi la necessità di pagare in contanti (!), con ricevuta data solo dopo specifica richiesta.||Non do il voto minimo solo, come detto, per la belleza del convento, ma per il resto da...

This converted convent needs a lot of tender loving care. Very nice managers and a decent breakfast. The interior is very atmospheric but the owners clearly ran out of money. Our room was huge with a fantastic view across to the Ilhéu de Vila Franco do Campo. But the mattress was uncomfortable and there was a drainage smell coming from the bathroom pipes. We informed management and they were concerned about it and said they would bring in a plumber. But at the end of the day the smell was never eliminated. Not that you need it but the room also had no television. So this place has so much more potential because of it being a former convent with amazing views.
