Sabores da Vizinha — Restaurant in Vila Franca do Campo

We had participated in the local whale watching tour in this area and wanted to find somewhere for lunch. We heard about this place getting great reviews, with a patio overlooking the ocean. It was a small place that offered local fish and meat dishes, usually accompanied with rice, potatoes and salad. I was intrigued to try the swordfish they featured on the menu and it did not disappoint. It was grilled nicely and the texture was very flaky and moist. It was a large portion as well and it definitely hit the spot. The service was friendly and efficient. Once again, fanta just seems to hit different in Europe. It was a great spot to satisfy our lunch cravings. It also allowed us to take a walk around the town and admire the history and local architecture. I would recommend this place if you're in the area. The whale watching was also a unique experience and very enjoyable. All in all it was a fantastic day...

Very nice place for a lunch with a sea view. The staff was very friendly and the prices very fair. Expect simple dishes, nothing fancy, then you won't get disappointed. I had the morcela com ananas (blood sausage with pineapple), which was plenty for a lunch and quite nice. My partner is vegetarian, so her option was limited to one dish: roasted vegetables. Which was fine, but a bit plain and uninspired. But finding good and creative vegetarian dishes is generally hard in many restaurants here. The garlic bread as appetiser was great and plenty, but be sure to really enjoy garlic and butter, before ordering it, as it is soaked in it ;). If they had more vegetarian options for my partner, we would have come back several times, as the seafood also...

Just. Simply. Bad. We ordered Tuna steak - it was too overcooked. The second dish was vealchops - it was so well-done (and I ordered medium), that it could be used as a shoe sole. The meat was like a rubber, not chewable at all. As I complained about it, I got another peace of meat - well, it was a piece of bone with tiny bit of meat, which were even worse than the portion before. Our bread came only after the crew noticed that nobody got appetizers. All-in-all, not even worth the view from...
