Inema Arts Centre in Kigali is a vibrant cultural hub that showcases the best of Rwandan arts and crafts. With its modern facilities, well-curated exhibitions, and engaging events program, Inema is an excellent destination for anyone looking to experience the creative energy of Rwanda. You will be captivated by the quality and diversity of the art on display, from traditional textiles and sculptures to contemporary pieces. The centre provides a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, with knowledgeable staff and volunteers on hand to offer insights into the works and the artists behind them. You may have the opportunity to meet some of the artists in residence. When I visited, Denis Mpabuka Nkotanyi was around. He took ample time to tell me part of his life story and discuss his pieces of art. There's a decent coffee shop on site. Overall, Inema Arts Centre is a must-visit for anyone with an interest in art, culture,...
Read moreLocation and permanent art are pretty good. However, the art offered for sale is overpriced by a factor of 20-50 relative to actual value in most cases, presumably priced for incompetent buyers looking for exotics. You might say about these exhibits that the price is the only distinguishing feature. There is one good artist exhibited in the upper floor, not my cup of tea but decent. Incidentally, the same pieces of him hang there from one year to another meaning that even these are not priced to sell. As I was leaving on one occasion, owner/director(?) sitting outside asked me for a donation on behalf of the gallery. Well, if you run a business it should be made to generate profit, have interesting art priced to sell, not corner yourself to a plea...
Read moreThis was the strangest gallery visit. We visited July 14th. The slim gentleman with a goatee asked for an entrance fee of 15000 RWF for each of myself and wife (Paid 30K). I did not know there was an entrance fee otherwise I would not have come. Didn't see any mention of this online. Never heard of a fee to see the work of artists that are for sale. But since we had used move transportation to get there, I paid. Some of the artwork were good but nothing worth paying a $10 entrance fee for especially since it's not a museum. Disappointed. Beware of this although deep in my gut I feel...
