The name is somewhat misleading, because it is so much more than pasta!
Federico creatively combines all of his pasta dishes with a protein (primi & secondi in one course, if you like).
The pasta is handmade in perfection (and not only tagliatelle, but a whole range of specialties), each one carefully pared up with meat, fish or a veggie option (for example homemade mozzarella) and a sauce that holds everything together in a lick-your-plate sauce.
We had four different dishes today and each one was served in short time (compared to other Kigali places), freshly hot (I hate it when food sits around and cools down) decent amount (you won’t go hungry) perfectly presented and absolutely delicious.
The food alone is reason enough to become a regular.
But there’s other “small” details that we liked: if your order wine by the glass, they let you taste and chose the open wines before filling your glass (this is rare for Kigali) staff is professional, attentive and super friendly. Federico is a fantastic trainer, it is heart-warming to see the dedication he gives to his team and their vocational training. the atmosphere is warm and cozy. The adjacent wine-shop is nice to browse through on the way pricing is on the higher end (22-25k for a main), but still reasonable and more than justified for the quality you get.
If I had to pick some advice for improvement, I’d have to think long and hard… …maybe this: it would be nice to have the option of ordering a solo pasta dish (without the meat component) or simply a smaller portion of one or two dishes as a “kids’ plate”. But then again: we didn’t even ask before ordering, so maybe they would have accommodated this wish if given the chance. We will definitely be back very soon to this fantastic place...

We had another exceptional 🎉 experience at Pasta&Basta yesterday evening! The food is always consistently delicious, with a wide variety of pasta dishes that showcase the rich flavors of Italy. What sets Pasta&Basta apart is the attention to detail and the passion for sharing the love of pasta. They even have a small plate displaying the different types of pasta on offer, which is a great touch.🎉
This time, we gave our son a cooking class with Federico, the owner and head chef, as a birthday 🎁 present. He and his friend had an amazing time learning the art of pasta-making and presentation, while we enjoyed a relaxing evening with wine🍾. Federico and his team went above and beyond to make this experience special for our boys.👨🍳👩🍳🧑🍳
Pasta&Basta is currently and, without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in Kigali, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Italian experience. The staff are warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate.
