Palić Zoo — Attraction in City of Subotica

Since I have been living in Palic, I have been visiting this ZOO since early eighties. It has been more than 10 years that I last visited the place. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with what I saw. This ZOO was in much better condition 40 years ago than now. It had gone under a reconstruction which seems to be quite ambitious but poorly maintained. On some places they have installed glass on the cages instead of the wire. That glass looks like hasn’t been cleaned since they have put it there. The signs on the cages are faded by the sun and rain and dirty. A lot of animal spieces that were here before are missing. Everything looks poorly planned and without order. The space itself is huge, with a lot of plants and flowers fairly cultivated. Most of the animals seem neglected, as does the whole picture, but their cages seem quite big and conditional. This place has a great potential, many spieces, vast space, but it should be much more organized and maintained. I was really sad upon leaving the ZOO, because I feel it as mine and would like it to regain its former shine. Please take...

For over 30 minutes loud noise could be heard across the zoo. On our way back towards the entrance, we realized it was the Macaws. Some of the animals along the road were looking confusingly at the direction of the noise. When we reached the cage we noticed a group of 3 or 4 macaws ganging on the 4th one, lynching him. Kids were watching, we elders tried telling them off since apparently there is not a single person looking out for general safety on the premises. Traumatized we hurried to reception to ask why no one is intervening, turns out they were somehow blissfully unaware of the commotion. Last time I turned around, the bullied bird was trying to walk away towards the fence and just fell on the ground, I think the gang went on to bully...

For entrance 250rsd for adult you will see only some of the animals outside. Some cages are just empty (like elephant's). Many animals were locked inside (lions, tigers, giraffe, bear -he was still trying to get out). Many mammals were kept alone without their mates :( And in all ZOO area you can NOT buy any food or drinks, there is only something at the entrance. Weird, I hope that in future you will not just work harder on animals wellfare but also you will take care more about the visitors... One more thing- at the black hens cage, there are living rats. We saved one turtle, who was lost from its place. And we did not meet any worker in the ZOO for...
