Vila Lago — Hotel in City of Subotica

I booked the hotel because a friend recommended the lake and I was doing research on the Hungarian border. It's a lovely old house but as a hotel, its not quite 4 star. ||||Upon arrival, although it seemed like I was the only guest, I was booked into the room directy in front of the reception area (room 101). The manager is loud and likes to hang out there and chat with the staff so I could hear everything. I moved to the second floor and it was much better. The rooms are pretty spacious and the bathroom has good water pressure. The wifi was pretty fast. ||||Previous reviewers commented on the good restaurant but apparently that is not open anymore. That was a disappointment as I didn't want to go into town and wanted the tranquility of the lake. I had a very nice ham and eggs breakfast in the hotel restaurant but the entire staff congregated in the restaurant at the bar having a very loud shouting type conversation for my entire meal. Again I was the only guest.||||The spa appeared closed down and no one mentioned it to me. ||||However staff are very friendly and helped me book taxis both into town and to Hungary. We checked in last weekend and both of our rooms were full whit bugs. Very creepy and they were everywhere. On the bed, floor, curtain... everywhere!! The very nice young girl in Resepsjon tried her best to vacuum the whole room but there was only so much she could do. When I went to bed there came bugs out from the air conditioning again. Next morning we went down for breakfast and I asked for som tea, the lady working there asked me which tea I wanted and I said I wanted earl grey that stood in the shelf. Another lady came by an told her not to give me that tea but another cheaper one instead. She dident know that I’m married to a Serbian and understand the Serbian language. ||There was also no kompensation on the prices when we were checking out. Due to the creepy bugs problem. Even found bugs in my suitcase when I came home 😱 ||I’m working in a hotel myself and I know how much you have to do to make sure your guests are satisfied. ||This hotel is absolutely NOT a four star hotel!!! ||I can definitely not recommend this to anyone. ||Really bad experience unfortunately.||||Vibeke from Norway...

The hotel is in the centre of a beautiful tourist region, next to Palić lake. We have stayed in a very spacious apartment which was very clean with beautiful sounds of peacocks. The hotel is 100 metres from the Zoo, and has a small but functional swimming pool which our children enjoyed swimming in. The staff are extremely polite, and very helpful. From the moment we booked the accommodation until the day of departure, we were well looked after by the staff and we would highly recommend this hotel!
