Alarming Negligence in Food Safety at NTUC
I bought two boxes of tomatoes, only to find that almost the entire box (around 90%) was mouldy and unsafe to eat. I returned them, highlighted the issue, and reminded staff to urgently check the rest of the stock. This is not a minor matter. ‘any elderly residents shop here, and some may not notice mouldy produce. For anyone, especially the weak, consuming it could cause real harm. Yet, days later, mouldy tomatoes were still being openly displayed for sale. This shows a complete lack of urgency, responsibility, and basic care for consumer health.
What makes this worse is that the issue is not limited to a single outlet. At another NTUC branch (Seletar Mall), I personally saw small cockroaches crawling among the onions and a watermelon that had split open left on display. The fact that such lapses occur across multiple locations makes it clear this is not an isolated mistake, but a systemic failure in quality assurance.
Food safety is not optional. It has direct and serious implications on consumers’ health, and NTUC’s failure to enforce strict checks and hygiene standards is deeply irresponsible. To continue displaying mouldy produce even after feedback days later shows not only negligence, but also disregard for the very people who trust NTUC with their groceries. Words about “commitment to food safety” mean nothing if actions so blatantly contradict them.
NTUC must urgently review its food safety and quality assurance practices. Anything less is not just unacceptable. It...
Read moreDear NTUC Fairprice Xtra Ang Mo Kio Hub Management,
This is intended as feedback and not a complaint, as I believe it can help improve customer experience.
I recently visited the fresh fish department and observed a signboard displaying "any 3 at $9.90" with four different fish species available for selection. I interpreted this to mean I could choose any combination of three fish from the displayed options, regardless of species.
However, when I attempted to purchase three of the same species, the staff member at the stall informed me that this was not permitted. He directed my attention to a photo on the signboard showing four distinct fish species, stating that this image clarified the intended meaning of the promotion. While I understand the staff member's explanation, I found the wording of the signboard to be misleading. "Any 3 at $9.90" strongly suggests a free choice of any three items. The accompanying photo, while showing four species, does not explicitly negate the "any 3" wording.
To avoid confusion for future customers, I would suggest either: Rewording the signboard to clearly state "3 different species at $9.90," or something similar. Removing the "any 3" wording and replacing it with wording that properly reflects the promotion. If the any 3 wording is to remain, ensure staff are informed that any 3 fish are allowed.
Thank you for considering this feedback. I appreciate the variety and quality of products at NTUC Fairprice Xtra and hope this helps to enhance the shopping experience for...

I wish to highlight my most unpleasant experience with one of your female staff on 14/06/22, between 12.50 - 12.55am.
My wife and I was scanning our picked items at a self-checkout counters.
Halfway through the scanning process, one of your female staff came from elsewhere, and stood very near to our checkout counter.
She then staringly scrutinised us scanning the items. I ignored her unusual posture and did the scanning as usual.
Unfortunately, I struggled to scan in one of the mushroom packs due to the uneven barcode printed on the shrink-wrap. I tried using the hand-held scanner but was also unsuccessful.
The female staff obviously witnessed the problem and instead of offering friendly assistance. She abrasively pulled the item off my hands and scanned the barcode after making some adjustment.
After a while, she just walked away nonchalantly.
Throughout the process, we had no verbal exchange and I was very taken aback by her hostile stance and unprovoked rudeness.
As I recall the experience again; I came to realise that she was also not wearing a mask during work.
I have been patronising this outlet countless times; and have always been impressed by the friendly, competent, and hardworking staff working there.
I hope the management will look into this incident and take corrective actions on staff who violate basic service behaviour and downplay...
