If this is a place you're taking your smelly kids to burn energy - you're going to love it. There's lots of really intricate and well-designed play areas, trampolines, climbing walls, slides, etc. All the animal exhibits have a viewing point for the smallest of children, plus the park itself is situated in a forested environment so there's lots of shaded and wide pathways even in the hot summer months. HOWEVER - this is still supposed to be a zoo and it really sucks that they are throwing money into making it a cool experience for your kids, while the animals aren't getting the upgrades they deserve.
If you're coming here as a genuine animal lover you will be greatly dissapointed. A lot of the enclosure infographics are mislabeled and outdated, there are absolutely no orientation signs in the park other than a map you get at the entrance. Some of the enclosures are so huge you have zero chances of actually spotting the animals you came to see, while other enclosures are so, so small and tight it makes your stomach turn. You can see a lot of the animals are exhibiting stress behaviors such as pacing back and forth aimlessly and repetitively for hours and several birds that have plucked out all of their feathers. The monkeys, wildcats, bears and the lonely elephant will break your heart - if...

The variety of animals is impressive, ranging from native Slovenian species to exotic creatures from around the globe. Each exhibit is thoughtfully designed, providing ample space for the animals and educational information for visitors. I particularly enjoyed the interactive displays that engaged both kids and adults.
The staff was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, eager to share insights about the animals and conservation efforts. It’s clear they genuinely care about the wellbeing of the animals and the education of the public.
The zoo is well-maintained, with clean facilities and beautiful walking paths. I appreciated the picnic areas, perfect for a family outing.
Overall, my visit to the Ljubljana Zoo was delightful, and I wholeheartedly give it a five-star rating! It’s a perfect spot for families, animal lovers, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful day in nature. Highly recommended!
PS: there is a lot of reviews complaining about the ticket prices. As a business owner, I understand that the food, energy and labor costs have gone up and it is only logical for every business to adjust the price of...
Read moreReally brilliant zoo. I’ve never seen so many and such high-quality extra amenities in a zoo.
Very wide variety of species. Some of the enclosures are very spacious (e.g. for the lovely Lynx.) (One exception is the wolves seemed cramped) Every species had a very well designed and extremely detailed info board (including diet, conservation status, social structure, predators, etc…).
Multiple insect hotels and a lovely wooden rest station/bird watching point at the top of hill at the far end.
The play activities were amazing, an abundance of really good wooden climbing frames, bouncy balls, trampolines.
The pizza had no right being so good for a zoo cafe. It was the cheapest I’d had so far in Ljubljana for its quality and size. Good size for 2 people. Chips were nicely done too.
Very very cheap. I imagine it’s well subsidised (although I used the Ljubljana card).
The overall zoo goes up a hill into the forest and it’s a beautiful walk. I went in winter, it was perfectly fine with the snow. In fact there was almost no one there and it might have made the animals more comfortable...
