This past fall I was visiting family in Serbia and Slovakia, but decided to make a little Euro-trip out of it, as such visiting various neighbouring countries; Hungary, Austria, Italy, Czechia, etc. It was my second time visiting Slovenia (went the previous year as well)- the country absolutely stole my heart and it is by far one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited in my life... a truly underrated gem! Anyways, while we were in Ljubljana I was searching out good restaurants when Čad popped up on a few lists- it was also mentioned to be by a couple people I encountered in town-, so we decided to check it out. First of all, I absolutely love the drive you have to make to get there... very scenic, and tucked away inside a beautiful park. The building itself is also very nice and old fashioned, which I really love. The aesthetic inside is as classic as it gets... You feel like you've been transported back to the good old days... A simpler, happier, more honest time. I could stay in there all day and night soaking in the authentic decorations and surroundings. The waiters are all lovely and highly accommodating, with a great sense of humour- they also all seem to be fluent in at least two languages. Now, onto the food... It is incredible- absolutely incredible! It is easily on par with the very best grilled delicacies I've had in Serbia... and that is a hard standard to meet, because the Serbians are world renowned for their grilled dishes. Čad really is on par with the best Serbia has to offer, and in some regards even better. The burek/gibanica, prebranac, čevapi, vešalica, etc. were all mouth-watering. The portions were absolutely massive and can easily supply you with lunch and dinner from one plate. Be sure to indulge in heaps of rakija while you're there- the waiters sense of humour will be even funnier! I highly recommend this great place and look forward to visiting...

This seemingly unparalleled setting does not reflect the offer and service it provides. The current 4.3 rating is far from reality — a more accurate one would be 2.7.
Food (3/10): Believe me, after years of working in the hospitality industry, this is the first time I’ve been genuinely appalled. The restaurant serves only grilled meat dishes that are, frankly, below the level of even a decent fast-food joint. The à la carte menu is shockingly limited, which is a major letdown for a place of this stature. One would expect a wide array of sauced dishes, traditional Slovenian cuisine, and seasonal offerings. Instead, the meat quality is disappointing, and the portions are small. The price is entirely disproportionate to both quantity and quality.
Service (1/10): Most of the waiters are older, and some of them were outright unfriendly. At one point, I hesitated to order more food because they were so visibly annoyed it made me uncomfortable. Simply put, I was left speechless. This level of service is unacceptable for what is supposed to be a medium-luxury restaurant.
Ambience (10/10): The only redeeming feature of this establishment is the forest-like setting — ideal for hot summer days. There’s ample shade, as the garden is tucked under the trees, creating a truly refreshing outdoor experience.
To conclude this brief review: this restaurant is miles away from the Michelin Guide standard. A complete overhaul of the menu is necessary — the introduction of high-quality ingredients and a more diverse offer is essential. The potential is there, more than ever — but only if someone decides to act on it.
Until next...
Read moreAn incredibly good restaurant serving authentic Slovenian cuisine — honestly, one of the best dining experiences we had in Ljubljana. The food was fantastic — fresh, flavorful, and simply delicious. I especially loved that they serve traditional local dishes prepared with real care and quality. It’s exactly what I wanted to experience in Slovenia, and it exceeded my expectations completely.
The staff were super friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. We were there with a large group from Germany, and it wasn’t a problem at all — everything was handled quickly, smoothly, and with impressive professionalism.
The atmosphere is another highlight: the restaurant is surrounded by trees and nature, giving it a cozy, almost luxurious countryside feel. Plenty of free parking right on site, easy to access.
In short: excellent food, great service, and a beautiful setting. If I ever come back to Ljubljana, Čad will definitely be my first stop. Highly...
