….What brought us here was the sign we saw on the road which displayed “Olive Tasting” and being a wine estate we were sure there is also wine tasting. Its a nice drive in to get to the Hill-Crest restaurant which also has a Beer-garden. The restaurant is much bigger in the outside seating area but inside is not to bad. The wine tasting area is niff-tii and only seats about 10 patrons at five tables while the centre of the room is filled with barrels stacked with the “Saartjie” brand wines which is a product of Hill-Crest wines. We ordered an Olive Platter with the Red-Tasting at R 100.00 for 6 tastings. It was an enjoyable experience to visit here. All the staff were friend-lii and very respectful. If you were sitting down for a meal outside you also enjoy the incredible picturesque view of the surrounding vineyard and the Atlantic Ocean in the distance to the west….NB! Covid-19 Safety Policy in place as at the entrance all passengers in the vehicle must have their temperatures checked and No Mask No entree. Hand Sanitiser Spray bottles are all around the...
Read moreWe were in the mood for pizza , but the restaurant we normally visit was fully booked so we opted for Hillcrest as a new addition to our restaurant list. It is based outside Durbanville between all the wine farms An absolutely wonderful setting with great views. The sunset was amazing. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. Being a Friday evening, they offer a pizza special with two for the price of one. I tried their Fuco firery pizza which was really delicious with just the right amount of heat. It seldom happens that I don't feel like adding more condiments to flavor up my pizza ... this one needed nothing at all. Very tasty. Their craft beer is good. I tried the Honey Ale and found it to be light , low in bitterness with a slight honey after taste and color. The staff is friendly and very helpful, but the wait was incredibly long. My feeling is that they are under staffed and although the restaurant wasn't fully booked they battled to get the orders out...
Read moreI've been living in Cape Town for twenty years and have always been a fan and loyal patron of Hillcrest. Today I was disappointed. The waiter, Kelvin was really friendly, helpful and efficient. I ordered a salmon bagel and was told that they don't have bagels in stock. I also ordered chili poppers to take home just to be told that that is also out of stock. On a Friday morning right before a long weekend....come on guys?! These are standard items on your menu. In stead of the chili poppers, I ordered Corn and Zucchini fritters to take home and asked specifically that the items be packaged separately only to get home to find it all in a very unappetizing mess in a polystyrene container, this cost me R89. I could've bought a decent meal at Woollies for less than this. There were a total of about ten people in the restaurant while my friend and I were there from 10am to 12pm so you can't say that you didn't have time to go to some effort. My heart...
