Amazing beach and lawn. The waves and water temperature were perfect. The lawn is really nice to sit on, instead of usual sand.
There are life savers. But most of them sit and play on their mobile phones and don't watch the swimmers.
Apart from that, one goes to the beach to relax in nature, hear the waves and the sound of children playing. These life savers were playing thunderingly loud music.
I am aware of the fact that teenagers can't do many activities in silence and need loud music to fill their heads so they don't have to think, but one does not need that at a beach and they should respect that and use headphones. They have a job to do and that includes using their ears.
I am not an old fogey - am in my late twenties, but I can go to a club if I want to hear loud music.
Without the life saver activities, I would have given the beach five stars. Please have a staff meeting with these...
Read moreBeen visiting this beach annually for more than 40 years. Today I notice no visible life savers. They may be hiding somewhere, there are two flags about 20m apart indicating safe swimming area, ridiculously small area. But no water temperature on the board, a rather important bit of information for this area where temperature can vary from 20 to 11 C. What happened? Please get the see en sand people back. These life guards are clueless. No one allowed to swim because tide is high. I grew up on this beach, swam here in seriously rough conditions. See en sun understood how to manage the conditions. This young man wants bathers to go swim at kamma baai next door or stand in shallow water where you are close to the rocks and in far greater danger of injury than in deeper water. What idiot has been...
Read moreI've been visiting Hermanus and spending hours on end at Voëlklip Beach since the age of one. I'm 43 years old now so clearly this spot holds a special distinction for me. I love that over the years this beach has always remained free of any restaurants or bars on its perimeter. The grass-covered hill at the top of the beach provides a great place to sunbathe and relax, although there are also plenty of white sand options further down for those who prefer that.
A word of caution though: like all of Hermanus' beaches the water can get very cold. This past holiday there were two days where the lifeguards' temperature reading was 9oC! The sea can also get really rough so if you're heading there with the kids, you may want to keep an...
