Col' Cachios and every other pizza place in all of Cape Town can go take a running leap off a bridge, this place's pizza was LITERALLY the best I've ever had, that base ALONE is heaven.
I'm pretty convinced I died and was resurrected several times throughout my meal.
Not to mention, the fish tacos were also so beautifully done, fish was light & tender, crunchy batter, soft fluffy taco shells, JUST the right amount of pickled garnish and jalapeno.. just wow!
Initially we were looking for a spot near the beach to have lunch on a Sunday, obviously Google that jazz, everywhere is either closing, full, overpriced or overrated, saw all the reviews on the food here were great and thought, "huh-ho the best pizza? UhHmm then, let's see, clearly we must! " and OH BOI was I IMPRESSED!! XD Literally no jokes the best pizza ever... not even an exaggeration. They've ruined all other pizza for me.
Hopside Down is a little hidden gem that I am sooo glad I've discovered! Will 100% be back every single time I go down to Hermanus, to try everything...
Read moreNice place and location. Took a while for us to get a seat found for us, noboby offered to assist, as a group of 15 people, it seemed like they were reluctant to seat us at first, which we were confused by. So we just commandeered an available unreserved large table of our own accord. Then there was a miscalculation of the bill at the end, and we were told we were short, (we weren't), so we topped up, just to be told, somebody else had paid the difference earlier. We topped up with R200 and we only received R100 back for the mix up. (R100 was paid in cash and the other on card. We received only the cash back). Gratuity was already included in original calculations, so this was not an attempt at scapegoating that.
I feel more care should've be given in this situation. It was a long weekend, naturally you'll have more than just the locals attend your establishment, they need to feel welcome too.
It's still a worthy establishment, worth a visit. I just felt given MY experience with it, 3 stars...
Read moreWe have eaten at all the restaurants in Hermanus and Hopside Down has the best pizza. The dough has just the right chewiness and flavour. It is not too thick or too thin. There is enough cheese and sauce. My wife has found that some of the toppings may make the pizza a bit soggy, so we get salami and olives now and are happy every time. Whenever we go out for pizza we go here. My wife also gets the jalapeño poppers, which are baked in lots of cheese in the pizza oven. My son likes the chips and the pizza.
Check the opening times as their schedule is a bit unpredictable, but it is worth going. Our only complaint is that the open window for the counter behind the bar allows the stench of cigarette smoke to flow into the restaurant. If they could close that window it...
