Maison Estate — Attraction in Stellenbosch Local Municipality

This was one of our selected stops on the wine tram, (red line - so our 2nd stop for the day) especially for whiskey tasting. On arrival we wanted to check out the place and was greeted by a woman named Rachel. She was extremely unwelcoming and ushered us out of the restaurant area - without asking if we wanted to eat or not. No Rachel,we are not students and Yes, we can afford to eat at this establishment!

Our host,Alfredo seated us in a very nice spot. He explained that under COVID circumstances whiskey tasting is not available but offered the alternatives. A little disappointed. But he was very accommodating and gracious. Informative about the wines. Humble and cracked a good couple of jokes. Out of all the wine farms we did, he was most certainly our favourite host.

Incredibly beautiful location in the middle of the hilly landscape overlooking vineyards, mountains and a magically landscaped garden.

In my opinion, this is a real tip for anyone who wants to stay in Franschhoek but not directly in the center. We stayed in the Botanical Suite, and it was an out of the ordinary experience, Private pool, outdoor shower...a stay for all the senses. The whole interior design is simply harmonious I want to mention especially the design of the bathrooms and bathtub, absolutely a luxury.

The breakfast is simply great with lots of variety of products to choose from the area and from their now farm.

This was our third stop on the wine tram and by far the most disappointing.

Service was chaotic- we ordered upon arrival and sat there for 30 minutes before the wine was brought over for the wine tasting. Despite the price of the tasting being on the higher side, portions were small. We requested water three times and it did not arrive.

We ordered food and our food was given to the neighboring table and we were given an incorrect order. Staff were disinterested when we advised of this and still tried to charge us for the food we had not received.
