A warm welcome and friendly reception from the Security at the gate all the way to the Brew Master, Olaf. Modern and Stylish exterior and Interior design. Exterior Children Play and Adult Relaxation Area. The Resturant offers a perfect setting to balance your relaxation and appetite. We were introduced to their range of brews, Including the OPA, La Saison, Liberty, Stout and Lagerby Proffessor and Bongani. Olaf graciously and very patiently explained and took us through their brewing and fermentation process. It spoke to a collective who are very dedicated and passionate, not only to their product, but also the environment. Olaf went to great lengths to outline how they use and recycle valuable natural resources. Their craft beers are unique in flavour and depth, especially the Orange Pale Ale. Definitely on the to do list once I visit Franschoek again and have more time to savour these products. Thank you to Olaf, Prof and Bongani for a very enlightening and...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem in the heart of wine country! While Franschhoek is best known for its wine estates, this brewery is a truly delightful find. The beers are very specialized and brewed with real passion – we enjoyed them immensely.
We started with a very reasonable tasting at only R80, which gave us a great introduction to their range. My wife paired her dark ale with a slice of cheesecake – an unexpectedly perfect match! We even suggested to the sales manager that they consider offering cake-and-beer pairings, which sparked a fun conversation and led him to introduce us to two more excellent beers. One of these was their Belgian-style Tripel, nearly 10%, which I can honestly say is one of the best beers I’ve ever had in that style in South Africa.
The whole experience felt personal, creative, and full of character. If you love craft beer, or simply want something different from the usual wine tasting, this is an absolute must-visit in...
Read moreFranschhoek Beer Co. had us sipping, smiling, and wishing we could sneak behind the scenes! Their beer tasting is a little line-up of happiness: The Stout, The Liberty, The La Saison, The Weissbier, The Three Oaks, and a cheeky guest star — The Small Batch Cherry Cider. That Cherry Cider was hands-down my favourite… dangerously more-ish!
Now, while the tasting was fun (and far too quick for my liking), our brewery dreams were crushed when we realised you can only peek at the shiny tanks through a display window. Like kids outside a candy shop!
On the bright side, how cool is it that they brew with Franschhoek mountain spring water? Pretty much liquid gold straight from the mountain. And speaking of happy accidents, their La Saison Gin is a quirky little story on its own — born from a beer batch that couldn’t be used, it was rescued and distilled into a gin so good it deserves a standing ovation. Waste not, want not…...
