Trail Review: Wolwespruit Bike and Trail Park
Trail Type: Urban Trail Location: Adjacent to a freeway
Overview Wolwespruit Bike and Trail Park offers a mix of activities, including mountain biking (MTB), hiking, and trail running. The proximity to the freeway means that the natural sounds are often drowned out by traffic noise, which might detract from the experience for some visitors. However, the park is well-maintained and feels safe, thanks to the controlled car park and the presence of car guards.

Read moreWe hiked 9.7km at the Wolwepsruit Trail Park. The hike was rescheduled from 7 AM to 8:45 AM due to freezing temperatures. Despite the weather, 9 hikers showed up, including some new faces.
I remember the group deciding to do either the 5km or 10km hike, but in the end, we all hiked just over 9km together at the Wolwespruit Trail Park.
This park is familiar to me as it's close by, and I like the setup. It's located in the Erasmuskloof, Pretoria area, and it's only a 15-km drive, which takes about 20 minutes.
The hike costs R45 per person. The trail park offers a variety of trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking, ranging from 5 to 10km for hiking/running and 3 to 23km for mountain biking.
Our hike was mostly covered by trees and included crossing a few streams with bridges. The 10km trail is moderately difficult, while the 5km option is easier.
The weather was great for our 9.7km hike. The total ascent was 161 meters. Everyone's mood was positive, and we enjoyed chatting about various topics along the way.
We even caught glimpses of an aviation show at the Waterkloof Air Force Base. The hike took just over two hours and forty-five minutes (02:45:00), and it was a good experience filled with good people, nature, and exercise.
Afterwards, some of us decided to get a cold one and something to eat, which is an excellent way to finish a hike. The Wolwespruit Trail Park has a lot of value to offer. Since my last visit, they have added an additional restaurant called the BOMA. It has a relaxed atmosphere, and I enjoyed our visit.
That is it for a brief review. I hope this inspires you to try out the Wolwespruit Trail Park. For more things worth doing and places worth seeing. Check out...

Wolwespruit MTB and Hiking Trail 📅 18 January 2025
The weather was overcast, just like last Sunday’s walk at Jan Smuts House Museum.
It was my first time at Wolwespruit, even though it’s less than 5km from my house. I was amazed at how busy the parking area was when I arrived.
We kicked off the walk full of energy and excitement. I thought I had captured a group video, but alas, only a few photos made it through! Luckily, Ethel sent me a few photos of the ladies walking.
When Irma and Estelle reached the orange and purple trail split, I couldn’t for the life of me remember which trail we were supposed to take. After some deliberation, we opted for the orange route—a more challenging choice - for those curious!
As usual, I fell behind taking photos, but Margaret and "clicked" and had a relaxed, enjoyable walk. Rita kept us on track, refusing to let us shortcut—until I insisted we take one, fearing we’d miss coffee time and the group photo. Well, guess what? That shortcut led us right back to the trail. 😂 Eventually, even Rita finished before us!
Finally, we made it back to Pltfrm to catch up with Maria, Margaret, and Rita over coffee. Estelle and Irma couldn’t stay, and Rehelda and Ethel left soon after. Sadly, Midah didn’t join as she misunderstood the WhatsApp poll. (Note: If a Saturday is on the calendar, we walk Saturday and Sunday at the same location.)
Wolwespruit is one of the most beautiful trails we’ve done. 💚 Pet-friendly 💚 Kid-friendly 💚 Great food 💚 Clean facilities
Whether for hiking, mountain biking, or just relaxing—this trail is a must-visit! 🚶♀️🚴♂️
