기존에 '자성대공원(子城臺公園)'으로 잘알려진 곳이다. 자성대란 이름은 부산진성을 모성(母城)이라 부르고 이 성을 자성(子城)이라 부른 데서 비롯되었다고도 하며, 산 정상에 자성을 만들고 장대(將臺)로 사용하였다는 데서 비롯되었다고도 한다.
